1996 chevy tahoe fuel system

My truck failed to start this after noon. I have replaced the fuel relay and I checked to see if the fuel pump was getting power and the pump has no power. Does the tahoe have another fuse or relay for the fuel system? or is my fuel pump just bad. Fuel filter is new.

I followed the electrical lines toward the fuel pump( two black and a purple and a gray wire) and checked them at that point and I have no power I also opened the box where the fuel relay is located and only found power going in too one of the terminals the rest are dead. I replaced the relay already and still nothing.

Where are those fuses located? I have some on my drivers side door panel. And I have some under the hood where my fuel relay was located. Is there another fuse box elsewhere? You also stated to change out my fuel pump?

I've checked the both fuse boxs and everthing is fine. I'll check again to make sure. Which wires are the ones to the fuel pump. I found one purple one gray and a black w/white line and the black ground which is attached to the frame.

THE FUSES ARE UNDER THE HOOD FOR THE PUMP I THINK, HAVE NO WIRING DIAGRAMS, YOUR OWNERS MANUAL WILL SHOW FUSES, GET A TEST LIGHT AND CHECK THEM ALL, CHECK INSIDE AS WELL, UNTIL YOU FIX THE POWER TO THE PUMP DON'T BOTHER CHANGING IT. THERE ARE ONLY 2 BOXES.

often the fuel pump will short out and blow the fuel pump power fuse, check the fuses under the hood, I think it may be marked ECM 1 and ECM 2, if they are blown replace the pump and the fuse.

U went to the connector on the top of the fuel tank and verified the pump has no power?

Check for voltage at the pump. If it has 12v there, (and a good ground) then pump is bad. there may be a pump fuse on the fuse block (can't remember) but if you find it has blown, the pump may be getting ready to fail. If fuse fixes the problem, replace it and carry an extra with you, then change the pump.

Where is the fuel reset button on a 1998 Chevy Tahoe

There is no fuel reset button on Chevy vehicles . I suggest you watch this video on fuel pump relay testing . GM Fuel Pump Relay Testing Because this is what is involved in trouble shooting fuel pump systems on GM vehicles !

Its a 1999 chevy tahoe. Changed fuel pump twice.

Could be the pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Pull the vacuum line off the regulator and check it for fuel contamination. There should not be gas in the line. If there is fuel in that line the regulator is bad and needs replaced.

Chevy Tahoe fuel system

Two things:

First, are you aware that your vehicle will only have power to the fuel pump for about 2 or 3 SECONDS before engine start-up? Then the engine must be running for it to have any power beyond that?

Second, is the "Security" light flashing on your dash? If so, you have a security system problem. There won't be any power to the fuel pump.

Does anybody have any idea want could be wrong with my 2001 chevy tahoe??I replaced my fuel pump 2 yrs ago but now these past few weeks.I can drive about 6 to 8 miles away all day long stopping places and...

I had the same problem with my 1996 tahoe and it wound up that the fuel pump was going bad and then finally did go out completely. make sure you get an a/c delco or delphi fuel pump as they are much better than the cheaper aftermarket brands that fail after about 1 year or so. also, make sure they check the fuel pump relay located under your hood on the driver's side in the main fuse box. its about 10 bucks or so and also will cause your truck to die and not start again. it's well worth the investment to just replace it when doing the fuel pump. lastly, make sure they install a new wiring harned from the fuel pump in your gas tank to the electrical connector running to the engine. hopes this helps.

Is there a fuel pump rest button on a 2000 tahoe chevy

No there is not, That is if you are referring to the fuel pump. You have an under hood fuse box in it you will have a fuse that protects the fuel pump circuit, a fuel pump relay, and wiring from there to the fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank. If you are not getting any fuel most likely the fuel pump has failed and will need replaced, Install a new fuel filter as well.

Tahoe won't start

Is your security light flashing? If your Tahoe has the factory ant-theft system, if the security light is flashing while you are cranking your anti-theft system has been activated. It is common for the Tahoes to wear out the ignition lock assembly, lock cylinder and the ignition switch(electrical) which is attached to the lock assembly. I have replaced all three parts with great success and solved the no start problem on several GM trucks.

The most common problem with these vehicles is the fuel pump. The pump should run for a few seconds when you turn the key on before you crank the engine. If you don't hear the pump run, go to the fuse/relay box under the hood. Look at the diagram on the inside of the lid and locate the fuel pump fuse and relay. Check the fuse to see if it is blown put it back if OK or replace it. Unplug the fuel pump relay and use a paper clip to jumper across terminals #30 & #87 where the relay plugs in. If the fuel pump starts running, you should be able to hear it run at the back of the vehicle, where the tank is. If you don't hear the pump running, hit the center of the tank dead-center with a rubber or wooden mallet. If the pump still doesn't run, see if you can get to the wires going to the fuel pump and wiggle them. If you hear the pump run, try starting the engine. If it starts, replace the relay, if that was the problem or the fuel pump AND relay if the fuel pump was the problem. WARNING! WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE PAPER CLIP. IT MAY BE HOT!!!
The fuel pumps AND connector are big problems with GM trucks. If you replace the fuel pump(which is located in the fuel tank), use only the factory pump which you can buy at your GM dealer or an auto parts store that sells Delco parts. If the fuel pump used the small square four-pin electrical connector, replace it with the fuel pump. The latest GM/Delco fuel pumps will come with the new plug which you MUST change over as it is now a flat four-pin connector.
GOOD LUCK!
