Driver's power seat not working properly on 2004 tahoe

The driver's seat will not go all the way back, or move up and down. The front to back switch sometimes reverses directions----when you push the switch forward the seat moves back(but when the switch works like this the seat will move all the way back), and when you push the switch back the seat will move forward. The switch for the seat cushion will raise and lower the back of the cushion, but not the front part of the cushion. Also the cushion will not go down, it is all the way to the top. The passenger seat seems to work fine. I have turned off the easy out control and the seat recall is off. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

It sound like you need to replace seat control switch

  • jamesconn960 Oct 12, 2010

In the back of the seat (especially drivers side) check that the connections are tight. Mine did the dame thing. Paid $300 for them to add a longer connection cord- but it had just come loose!! Happened again 3 months later.

The drivers seat won't move and the heated seats won't work on both sides. Where is the fuse?

Check underneath the seat for an inline fuse. It is a glass type fuse in a fuse holder that you have to push and twist to get out.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

My drivers side power seat (on a 2004 Outback) is malfunctioning. It moves up and down, but not back to front. I've checked underneath the seat. There's nothing jamming the seat, no wires or sockets loose....

For $5-$10 you can buy a 12 volt test light at auto store or hardware store if you don't already have one. Multimeter will work too. Probe (poke) wires going to motor for power when you hit switch. Should light up on one, when switch one way, and other wire when switch pushed other way. Just reverses polarity to move motor in different direction. If no power on any, then I'd go to switch and poke for wire with constant power at one of the terminals. If constant source going into switch, but nothing getting to motor, then I'd replace switch.

Drivers seat will not go up or down

I think you will have less problems with removing the entire seat, just be careful with the wires, unhook wire harness first.

Not sure how heavy this seat is, and make sure you properly torgue everything down when you re-install for safety in a collision.

You can move the drivers seat back by turning on the power, getting in the seat and position your feet firmly on the fron flor with your back firmly against he seatback, and then engage the switch pushing back - while pushing like hell with your feet. You can actually hear the seat drive shaft turning while the seat moves back. The principle should be the same for moving forward, but pressure would have to be aplide to the back of the seat.
