SOURCE: trunk lock repair for 2002 Volkswagen Jetta
you must remove the internal felt covering that is on the inside of the trunk. This does take some force, but don't be afraid to pull hard, you will most likely not break any of the attachments on the felt cover. On the right hand side of the truck there is a handle right next to the license plate, it will take some finagling to get this to disconnect. Again, brute force dexterity and a flashlight are your best bet.

Check for a switch at lower part of rad. Should see a wire harness & plug on a sensor at bottom of rad. This sensor/switch also operates fan on/off according to coolant temperature. You may need to disconnect battery to get at it safely.

SOURCE: 2000 VW jetta; what is the torque for valve cover and plenum
I briefly looked online and did not see any info direct6ly relating to the torque spec of the cover bolts. I would guess around 15 ft lbs.--not too much--the head is aluminium--best way to go is to walk up to the service counter of the VW dealer and ask him to provide that information. You have the car and they built it!

Your best bet is to invest in a Chilton book on your specific vehicle. It will give you pictures and exact directions on how to do this. All Checkers or what ever auto service center you have in your town will carry them. Just a useful warning though - don't buy knock off's just buy the Chilton. Good rule of thumb ALWAYS put it in the same way you took it out. Good luck!!!!
