Sounds like a thermostat problem to start with. Follow the top rad. hose to the engine. You will have to bleed the system of air after.

SOURCE: heater blowing cold air

My 05 sentra with 79k miles heat will warm up and then get cold after a mile of driving, we have tried to get the air pocket out, the mechanic stated he thought it could be a blown head gasket, another mechanic said it was a bad heater core. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thermostat problems

your easy, that is caused by AIR Pocket in the engine block
the gauge can not read, air temps so if air is below the engine
coolant thermostat the ECT reads hot then air (cold ) repeats
you lost coolant and the number one reason for that is trusting
the silly side tank, (they fail easy)
never do that, on the next cold morning , dead cold
you take off the RAD cap. look down the neck, is it full of green
AF? id bet you its not.
the cab heater will never work with no engine heat, ever. so ......
never do the above on any hot engine.
also the thermostat might be bad and the coolant overheated
and blew out, so get a new STAT.
the flush the system, and refill with 50% AF.
or worse. lots of ways to overheat.... ask.
the side bottle only works, (called the expansion tank)
if never overheated
and the tube in side is not dropped off
and you never let it go dry, ever.

those facts and others are why we check the RAD directly cold.

Custom cruiser heat wont work and stalls

It sounds to me like your engine coolant level may be exremely low and your engine is probably severly overheating. I would recommend checking your coolant (antifreeze) level and checking for possible engine damage due to overheating.

1998 caddy sts over heating and blowing cold air when heat is on

sounds like it might be low on coolant. Low coolant levels will stop the flow and circulation to the heater core, and also might be the cause of overheating

No heat ,blows cold air

It is likely that the thermostat has failed and is stuck wide open as a failsafe. This jsut happened to me last week in my VW golf. Your engine will never come up to temperature but as long as the thermostat stays open it will not overheat either. Change the thermostat ASAP in case it the failsafe doesn't keep open and you overheat the engine.

Blowing cold air,and overheating

First thing i'd do is check & fill coolant as needed, then monitor level for possible leak. Make sure you run the engine when you add coolant, and make sure heater is on. Let it run for quite a while with cap off, to disperse air in system. When coolant level gets low, engine needs all it can get which will cause it to sort of by-pass the heater, until level gets back up where it should be. Low level explains reason for engine heating up as well as no heat inside. Hopefully the reason for the low level isn't anything too bad, or expensive, but you'll know soon enough if you monitor the coolant level faithfully, or if not sure, have your system pressure tested to avoid major problems in future, if nothing major yet.
