2 things can cause this a short in the circuit or behind the brake pedal there is a switch so that when you press on the lights come on. check the switch first might be out of adjustment. Get back and tell me what you find.

I would take out all the spark plugs and perform a cylinder compression test and compare the results of your engines compression to a repair manuals specs and see if the results sumwhat coinside, if you find the compression to be considerably low across all 4 cylinders i would check your timing belts condition and make sure all the timing marks line up its possible your belt is worn and could have jumped out 1 tooth of valve timing causing extreme power loss in the engine.....
