I suspect the front crank-seal (stationary leak) as I can fix other covers etc. with new gaskets or sealant. This car (165k miles) was imported from UK and not available in South Africa. Can get generic seal from Spares outlets if I obtain the correct size specifications. Require this info please?
You should be able to get the specs from the closest Jag dealer shop or thier service advisor.
Testimonial: "Thanks, but I did not want to go to a dealer, ask for the seal and then not buy it (surely at an inflated price in SA) once I managed to get an idea of measurements. (which they won'nt and probably can't provide). My remaining option is to remove the seal and use this specimen to go hunting for a generic one."

SOURCE: Engine won't start on Jaguar XJ8 Vandenplas TRAC NOT AVAILABLE
hey blackdiam522,
First did you have a check engine light, and do you know what the code was if you did?
Ok, the traction control not available isnt goin to affect the car from starting.During my year of a jaguar tech the most common for a crank, no start is a flooded engine. Now the two most causes for a flooded engine on these jags are 1. the weather is just super cold and all the own does is keep cranking the car to try to get to start. 2. A lot of short trip, a lot of city driving, 15 mins or less.
When you get something like this, a no start crank, you have to pump the gas pedal really fast, like your starting an oil muscle car. this forces more air into the engine.
when this no start happend u could get all these codes, what i maybe would recommend is a tune up, and some highway driving every once and a while to kept this from happening again, hopefully this helps, thanks.

At that price replace the engine. Make sure though that you get a warranty for the engine that includes the cost of installation if the new one fails. Most shops will warranty for 90 days which is long enough to find out if there is going to be a problem.
SOURCE: jaguar s-type restricted performance
I had the same problem. Restricted performance and running rough at 3000 RPM. I have an OBDII code reader and found that the problem was in the air mass flow sensor, which is just after the air filter. I pulled this out and found it was dirty and had butterfly wings in it. The last shop where I had the oil changed replaced the filter for me but put in the wrong size. Close but no cigar. Bought some *** Flow Sensor cleaner at auto store and fixed the problem. Get an OBDII reader with the ability to erase the codes. Comes in real handy.
