1994 sedan DeVille 4.9 leters. The stater is 15 years old and I was told that the starter was inside the engine is this true?

Knock sensor is on the right (passenger) end of the engine, and will activate if at least one of the cylinders is misfiring.

well since the starter was only 2 months old i am betting its an ignition short. When u turn the key, the solenoid on the starter engages the bendix gear with the engines flywheel and then energizes the starter motor. And when u release the ignition the solenoid and the starter motor should de-energize. hope this helps you.

because it is 15 years old. Engine seals dry out and deteriorate over time. Just a guess, but I'll bet the oil is coming from your main seal or valve cover.

1994 Cadillac Deville 4.9L SFI 8cyl

Removal & installation - 4.5L and 4.9L Engines

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
3. Remove the starter motor shield.
4. Remove the exhaust front and rear pipe assembly.
5. Remove the flexplate inspection cover.
6. Disconnect the solenoid 'S' terminal nut and battery cable nut.
7. Unbolt the starter motor mounting bolts, and remove the starter motor.

To install:

1. Install the starter motor, and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
2. Install the solenoid 'S' terminal nut. Tighten the nut to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
3. Install the battery cable nut and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
4. Install the flexplate inspection cover, the front and rear exhaust pipe assembly and the starter motor shield.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.

yes u can, u will need one of suncore industries kits ($539.00) to do the conversion to standard shock strut system, u will also need the relay kit. Call them before u buy.

If the solinoid clicks the I would look at the starter. How old is the starter? they are only good for so long and do wear out. Also could be stripped teeth in one stopping place on the 'ring' gear, or it could be the bendix is shot. Removing the starter shoul;d tell you what it is.

as mutch as you probally dont want to hear this yes the radiator,fan assembly and starter need to be removed to prevent any damage to them and to make things easier

I had the same problem with my deville and i replaced all the same stuff so the next thing i had done stopped the problem ask your mechanic to check your fuel injectors and replace any bad ones if none are bad ask for an injector decarb... good luck!
