I've owned a 2000 E220 CDI with very low miles for a while now which has been meticulously maintained. This morning a Engine Fan Warning came on, followed by EL. Power Control warning. The immediate thing that I noticed was the the engine fan was running at full speed even at very low temp and starts immediately at start up. This had not happened to me before. I feel that the El. Power Control confirms that the vehicle has gone into Safe Mode or Limp Home Mode. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

that is a security code you have to enter into the head unit when the power is disconnected. It should be in your owner's manual leather case. there is a clear plastic card holder that the card is in when the car is new. You enter the code and then hit the * symbol. after you enter the code wrong 3 times it goes into wait mode and there is a process you have to do to get it out of wait mode. so if you find the card and you enter the number 2 times and the unit does not start working do not enter it a 3rd time. if you can,t find the card call the dealership with the v.i.n. and they will give you the code(you may have to prove ownership by going there and showing you i.d.). The other possibility is is that the radio has been replaced but the installer forgot to put the new code card in the owner.s manual. In that event you will have to remove the radio and get the serial number off the case. with regards to your starting issue-I have seen on several occasions the starter not work or intermittently work with a fuse issue. I know that the starter receives it's power from the brake lamp fuse on 93 and 94 model year and some 95. I believe it is fuse 8 in the engine compartment. Make sure you put the right amperage fuse in and also that the correct wattage bulbs are in the tail lens assemblies. these type of strip fuses can blow just at the tip and make intermittent contact. I was going to talk about this in the original posting but I didn't want to lead you down the wrong path so I assume your vehicle did not crank at all. Good luck I hope I have been helpful
The ESP message came on because the battery went low causing your steering angle sensor to lose syncronization. There are 2 different ways to resync the steering angle sensor. One way is turning the steering wheel from lock to lock and the 2nd way generally involves just driving the car around like normal and it will resync on its own. You will most likely just have to drive the car around until it resyncs on its own because of warning message your getting. When it says see owners its because in the owners manual there is a description on what the message means and what to do to fix it. Basically it just tells you to drive the car. Hope this helped you out.

You need a system scanner so yes you need to take it in to the dealer.
