Assuming that you are correct and ALL flywheel teeth are good and flywheel is not broken where it mounts to the crankshaft, You can either try changing the mount end of the starter with the old one, (if it didn't have the same problem) or using shims between the starter and block to get the starter to properly engage.

Is this a screeching sound of it is then, you may need to adda shim between starter and the mounting surface. Double check all wiring to starter and make sure they are not broken especially wire to the bendix of the starter (starter selonoid). Get back top me if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

Does a 1998 chevy blazer need shimmes on the starter?

Only if the starter grinds when starting. They are used to align the gear on the starter with the flywheel

When starter turns engine does not

Remove the starter shields and check the starter drive. Does it fly out when the starter is engaged? Check the flywheel for ring gear damage from the starter. Check the flywheel for breakage at the crankshaft, try to turn the engine using the flywheel with a screw driver.

WHEN I CRANK MY BLAZER I HEAR A GRINDING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO CRANK IT....SOMEONE said something about the shins ( starter),,,someone said water pump....someone said radiator

I don't see how the noise you hear could be coming from the water pump or radiator but yes it could be coming from not having the starter shimmed out far enough from the ring gear. Did you change the starter or do anything prior to hearing this noise?

I replace the starter two times in the last 4weeks when i try to start it just make this sofe noise like the starter is not coneting

I think what you are describing is the starter gear spinning when you turn the key to start, but the starter gear is not advancing on the shaft to engage with the flywheel to crank the engine over. Did you replace the starter and solenoid (they usually are sold as a unit), or did you just change the starter and use the old solenoid? The solenoid powers the battery to the starter, and advances the gear on the starter shaft, so if you used the old solenoid, replace it and it should work.

I replaced my starter for a 98 chevy suburban 2 weeks ago. I was hearing a loud clicking noise while starting my truck since then. I took my starter out today because it wouldnt start again. I would just...

Possible not shimmed correctly. The starter teeth have to engage correctly for the starter not to hang up. That's what probably happened & broke teeth off. You had better check your flywheel around the entire circumfrence as teeth may be missing from it as well. Starter won't engage if teeth and flywheel teeth in same spot are broken off. If the flywheel teeth are bad, it will be a spendy fix to put a new one on... Rick
