98% sure you have an axle problem. Might be wheel bearings depending on the sound. Bad axles will make a loud clicking noise, (click click click in rapid succession, espically while turning or under accleration) while wheel bearings will make a growling sounds.

Why does my car make a loud humming noise?

The buzzing noise is air in the power steering line. The reason it is only one n one side is cause when you turn the wheel it causes more pressure to build. Take the cap off the reservoir and turn the wheel back and forth all the way hold for a second on each side until the buzzing noise goes away. If that don't work then check your rack and pinion system to make sure you don't have leakage or damage from road debris.

More info - If it only makes the noise when the car is moving its probably a wheel bearing - if it makes a whining noise whether its moving or not it sound like the power steering pump is on its way out - it could be as simple as adding fluid - start the vehicle and while sitting there turn the wheel left and right - the noise should get louder and softer - if it doesnt - its one of the other accessories - a/c pump or the alternator itself -

Makes loud noise

It sounds like one of your CV (constant-velocity) joints is going bad. This is common on front wheel drive vehicles. The CV joint allows the drive axle to pivot as you turn the wheels. Over time the protective boots crack, the grease leaks out and you end up with the knocking noise you describe when turning while accelerating. The dealership should easily be able to inspect the CV joint boot and diagnose the CV joint.

Humming noise from front drivers side tire, is it the tie rod? how do I fix?

hello
most of the time when there is a humming noise other then a brake noise you have a wheel bearing bad the best way to tell if it is a wheel bearing making noise is while you are driving down the road and the vehicle is making the noise slightly turn the steering wheel left to right if the noise changes at all replace the wheel bearings gm cars are notorious for wheel bearing
good luck chris

Noises from axles can be really deceiving. The sound is transfered throuh the transaxle and can resonate through the entire vehicle. The turning to the left thing makes it sound like a problem in the right wheel/axle area. Wheel bearings and axles tend to make worse noise when they are on the OUTSIDE of the turn. More of the vehicle weight is shifted to the outside due to centrifugal force. Thus, if the noise is louder when turning left, this puts the right axle to the outside of the turn and the most likely to be the source of the noise. (and vise-versa) The fact that the noise calms down while cruising makes me believe that it is not a wheel bearing. Wheel bearings can make more noise in turns, however, they usually make a "roaring" or loud "humming" noise that gets louder with speed. An axle is more likely to change or get louder according to engine load more than rotational speed. (Way worse while accelerating or climbing a hill) I would be taking a hard look at the right axle.

You probably have a bad hub bearing. If you can change the noise by slightly turning the vehicle one way or the other it is a hub bearing. If you turn left and the noise is still there then it is the right front bearing. If you turn right and the noise is still there it is the left side.If it makes the noise both ways it could be both front hubs.Hope this helps.Good luck.

1997 Buick LeSabre has squeak noise coming from right front.

More likely this is a wheel bearing or CV joint than suspension components.

One good indication is if, when your making a right turn or accelerating, there is a shudder or shaking in the steering wheel then its likely a wheel bearing.

Another good indicator can be found when you jack up the suspicious wheel. Put one hand on the top of the wheel and one on the bottom and pull back and forth. If the wheel makes a clunking noise and moves in either direction, then wheel bearing is shot.

2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.
