Need to change rear seals in axcles how to? 98 gmc jimmy

First i would check to see if the axle air vent was clear if its not the oil is vary heavy and expands a lot this will build up pressure inside the houseing and cause the axle seals to leak if you can clear it the problem may fix it self its 80 90 weight oil thats thick stuff. If not you need to remove the rear wheels and brake drums then you have to remove the cover from the rear carriar catch the oil. Look inside the carriar houseing you will see the ends of the axles theres a small clip on each axle called a c clip remove them you can pull them out with your fingers. Then you can slide the axles out past the brake plates pry the seals out you might as well replace the bearings when your doing but thats up to you. Lube and install the bearings then the new seals you will need new seals lube the seal lips and vary carefuly slide the axle in taking care not to damage the seal install the c clip do the other side put a new gasket on the rear carriar tighten bolts to 20 ft lbs. Refill carriar 80 90 weight oil through filler plug on the side of the houseing until it just starts to run out hole put the plug in the rear drums on and wheels

What gear oil goes in manual transmission 91 Toyota pu 22re. [email protected]

There are two types of gear oil per say in a car/truck. Did you mean the engine oil or oil for the axle? Either way the engine oil is in the manual for the car, and for an axle you want at least an 80-90w oil.

hope this helps.

How do I grease the rear axle of my 01 chevy blazer (2wd) until I can get the leaking seal replaced?

Replace the seal forthwith. leaking grease will wreck your brakes and that is dangerous.

Typically rear ends take 90 weight oil, it goes in through a plug near the center of the rear end, fill to bottom of the hole, with rear end level. You can get a suction gun to **** some fluid and pump into the rear end.

1994 buick roadmaster, oil leaking out of right rear axle, checked brake fluid is full, could it be differential oil leak @ end of axle??

If what you see leaking is very oily and does not evaporate, likely it is an axle seal. If there are no leaks in the brake system, that's the only thing back there that can leak. If the axle bearing is going away, it can damage the seal so make sure you look for small shiny metal flakes behind the seal when you replace it or you will be doing the job again very soon. Can't remember...that IS rear wheel drive right?

Rear end wine - 2000 Chevy K1500. Sounds like the axle bearing but not 100% sure. Never replaced bearings in the rear before - not sure what I might be getting in for.

First check level of oil in rear end housing, if low, pull drums & see if any axle seals are leaking.

Rear axle seal leaking how difficult would this be to fix

Not that difficult, raise and support the rear of the truck and remove the wheels. Might as well replace both sides so you know you have new seals, remove the differential cover and drain the fluid. Once differential is opened and cleaned , remove the axle "C" clip that hold the axle in place and slide the axle out. Once the axle is out remove the wheel seal and clean around the area. This would be a good time to replace the wheel bearing too since you have access to them and there not that expensive. Install the new bearing and seal, note make sure you oiled the bearing and seal before installing it back and take care when installing the axle back in and "C: clip. Use RTV silicon gasket maker to seal the differential cover and wheels back on and lower. If your lazy like i am, you can drain the differential fluid and replace it with a 50/50 mix with gear oil and Lucas engine oil additives. That may stop the leak and get you a few more miles. You gear oil is 75W-90 and the capacity is 2.6 liters and 3.6 liters if you have the 11.50 Ring gear. Good luck and hope this helps.
