SOURCE: Car had no power.

the map code may be a symptom, not the problem. I would have a shop that specializes in VW check it out. Auto Zone isnt much help unless you are buying oil or car wash soap.

Hi I have a Westwood t1600 not sure if it a faulty solenoid basically I turn the key and two lights come on the dash the brake and deck engagement lever turn it to start and it doesn't even crank help

Turn on headlamps and try to start. If it clicks and dims the lights either you have bad connections at the battery or starter; bad solenoid or starter, or engine his locked up. If lights do not dim, bad solenoid or ignition switch most likely.

If battery goes out what's happen

you may have dash lights but it will not crank just a lot of clicks
the radio will kick into anti-theft mode so it will not work
The CPU program in the ECM may become corrupted and the immobiliser will kick in so you will not be able to start the car

Engine wont turn over even though all dash lights work when key on.

This is the classic symptom of a bad battery. Your engine requires a lot of power to crank but the little lights in your dash require very little. if the battery is even a little drained it won't crank the engine, but everything else will seem to work fine. Either jumpstart the car (if it starts, then you likely need a new battery) or test the voltage at the battery terminal when trying to start the car. If the voltage drops below 12 volts you need a new battery (or at least a freshly charged one)

Car will not crank and the timing chain is fine

Well, that's good, but even if the chain was broke, the starter would still be tryiing to start the car. Since your starter wont crank the engine over, your start circuit has a malfunction. Possibly the starter went out, so you need to have that tested for a malfunction. A simple test of part of the circuit is to turn the key to on.. Now your dash warnimg lights (oil, alternator, and check engine light) should be on. Are they on, and your gauges working? If not you have lost power to the ignition switch, so check your battery connections. If the key switch turns the dash on, then turn key to start. Do you hear a click from the engine area? If not, have the starter checked. If you do hear a click, or several clicks, then power from the switch is causing that click, probably at the starter. Turn the headlights on and observe them. Are they bright? If not, charge the battery up. If they are bright, watch them while a helper turns the key to start. If the lights go dim in start, probably a bad starter. If the lights don't dim, it could be a bad connection somewhere, like the battery or starter. Good luck

Car will not crank and all instrument cluster lights flash

If it has a remove starter I would have that looked at or disconnect to see if that makes a differance.

Have 1989 civic hatchback manual trans. will not start.. lights, dash light, radio all work but engine will not crank over and car will not start. did have this happen before but engine did crank over....

Hi,

Based on your post, dash instrumentation lits up but will not crank, probable areas to check would be:
  • starting solenoid;
  • starter motor;
  • ignition switch;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer (if any).
Some thoughts on the above:
  • If it were the starting solenoid, you will not hear a strong click/clank in the engine area;
  • If there is a a strong click/clank in the engine area then it could be the starter motor or the high current switch (inside the solenoid);
  • You could verify the state of the ignition switch with the use of a voltmeter or simply hot wiring/jumping the wires;
  • Depending on the type of alarm, most would have a "Panic Button" or reset of some sort. Pls try to check.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Would not start...just suddenly. Now clicking under the dash..relay I assume. Replaced relay, no change, still won't start, not the battery. Lights surge off and on, dash works off and on.

Changed the starter and solenoid one time. Cranked and started two times normal. The third time it did not crank, just a clicking from the dash. Checked where the clicking was coming from and found out the solenoid on the fire wall was it. Changed that part but it still did not crank just clicked. There are two soleoinds on this truck, one on top of the starter and the other one in front top of the fire wall. There the battery cables connect to that solenoid to the starter and the alternter. The truck has power to everything, just will not start.
