Known problem. Common for the wires to be too tight, and your shifter will actually cut the wires in two. Inspect the wires going to your shifter.

The front of the handle has a large "U" clip. Use a screw drive and pry the clip out. It's a lot easier to do when the shifter is pulled all the way back to "1" or "2" but is doable in park still. The handle will then pull up. There will be a plastic piece in it that pushes down to release the lock in the shifter assembly. If when you push the plastic piece down it doesn't release the lock you will have to remove the shifter cover and take a look inside, to see what broke. It may require replacing the whole shifter assembly. You should be able to find the complete assembly used for fairly cheap.

Tow and haul button don't work how do i check it

More than likely the wires are broken at the base of the column shifter. If they are you need to replace the shifter. You can also extend those wires to a momentary switch and mount it in the dash somewhere.

Electrical issue

Does the vehicle start an run ? If it does ,the brain as you call it is working fine . The check engine light has nothing to do with the PCM /ECM sensing problems .You probably should take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

My tow button on shifter does not work

Its a common problem. The factory installed the wires too tight, and the shifter will actually cut them in two. Remove the trim to get to the wires, and wire in some more length to give the wires room to let the shifter move without putting strain on wires.

Tow/haul not working on gmc yukon 2001

The wires are probably broken. They follow the shifter down into the steering column. After many years of shifting the wires break. You can find the wires inside the rubber piece that surrounds the gear shifter. They're orange. You can splice them and put them back in.

2004 ford F250 6.0 super duty. the tow haul mode won't engage. no blown fuses. How do I check shift lever switch

check your wires at the connection that goes to the tow haul button. under the plastic cover where the shifter connects. i ohmd the shifter to make sure it works when pressing the button and checked to see if power was coming up. first check the fuse. i had to ohm the two wires that went to the pcm and that is where i have my problem i think it is in the fitting . could be anything but i would start at the fuse then the shifter..

Car steering wheel locked; car won't start

If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.

2000 Dodge Durango will not shift out of 2nd gear

It seems to be stuck in 4x4 still. There could be damaged done to the powertrain by the towing company. Therefore they should be held accountable for the damage and repair that will be needed. You never tow a vehicle in 4x4 it should be carried on a flat-back. Same with AWD vehicles. The towing companies are well aware of this, is their business to know. Make sure to disengage the 4x4, put the 4x4 shifter on the floor in neutral while in park or not moving. If you continue to have problems contact the towing company and hold them accountable for it. See what you can work out with them. If they tell you they are not responsible then contact a lawyer and make them responsible for it.

My car dash-board shows "do off" light.

i think you might mean "od off". that means overdrive for the transmission. the button for that may be on the shifter handle or a button on the center dash board. unless youre towing or need a bit extra power you would generally leave it "on" with no lite on dash

02 gmc allison tran. wont go into tow-haul mode

THERE HAVE BEEN ALOT OF PLOBLEMS WITH THE SHIFTER HANDLE/SWITCH. THE BEST WAY TO VERIFY CONCERN IS USE A DIAG. SCANNER & VIEW TRANSMISSION DATA DISPLAY WHILE ENGINE RUNNING. THE SWITCH IN THE SHIFTER IS FAULTY. IF YOU SEE NO INPUT CHANGE WHILE DEPRESSING SWITCH THIS IS YOUR CONCERN.
