The heater blower sounds like the fan blade rubs against the housing. Starts when I hit a bump or turn left, or when it's really cold, like now. I have the glove box out and I can't see how to remove the blower motor.
Its under the glove box facing up. you remove it by dropping it down.
there should be 2-4 screws and the drain hose
Thanks Kevin,
I've been looking for the screws, and I can't see them. Can you tell me where they are?
I've got the glove box out, and the drain hose disconnected.
the cover might be the same as the current design there should be flip lock tabs on the sides then the motor has 2-4 screws on the inside holding it in place
if not then you will need to remove the lower part of the ducting with the fan etc

if you look at that pic you can see it has 2 large tabs with 10mm bolts and then the smaller ones going around the edge
Wow! Thanks Kevin! I'll take a look tomorrow.

I had the same problem and Ia m working to resolve it.
You need to remove the blover under the glove box it's very easy to remove. 1) remove the glove box, 2) the metalic suport that it's hold by 4 screws and finally remove the 3 screws that holds the blower. Take it off and remove the coverplate of the motor ( 2 screws) and
check the brushes. In my case they were worn out. So you need to buy a new motor with the blower aprox $50 or try to replace the brushes.

Mine use to work on high only. It was the switch cylinders, something like that. It was an easy fix. Now my blower motor works intermittently. If I kick it, it turns back on. It is located on the passenger side close to the door side directly above your feet (below the jockey box). Kick straight up. If you need to replace it it is also an easy do-it-yourself repair. Make sure before you go out and replace your blower motor that you check your switch. A lot of repair shops will replace the motor w/o checking the switch, you end up paying for 2 repairs. You can make sure it's not the switch by jumping (bypassing) the switch. You apply jumper wires (not cables) directly to the motor, if the motor turns on you know it's the switch.

there is a plug on the shaft-side of the differential. Using a ratchet remove the plug and with the engine OFF, stick your finger inside the hole and you should get fluid just below the threads of where the plug goes in.

If you have any of the large chain auto parts stores in your area, call them and ask if they do free scans; most do.
If Subaru has maintained the same procedures for a while, and you have checked fluids, etc., you can try resetting the light via the ignition switch:
-Turn on the ignition (don't start)
- switch it rapidly between the 'ignition on' and 'ignition off' positions three times.
If the error has cleared itself (not uncommon), the check light will reset. If the problem is still present, it will either stay or come back on.
Our Su has done this a couple of times and with the scanner we have on hand, there was never any particular repeated problem.
Just a computer glitch/hiccough -
