I have a 1996 gmc extra cab z71 5.7liter w/93000 miles, having a problem with the transmission shifting hard after a iam driving for a while after it set for a while it will shift normal and than start again shifting hard again and if iam pulling something it will blow transmission fuild
1. Oil coming from the ext. vent means Overfill fluid transmission or valve body problem (need to open the transmission to overhaul it) but usually overfill.
2. Do you have any transmission faulty code
3. If you pull a trailer, heavy load there is a function in PCM (powertrain control Module) that raise the pressure to compensate the slip at clutch pressure and if you unhook the trailer and go on the highway before the PCM learn it, it will shift hard. What GM call the "shift adapt". You probably have a 4L80E for transmission or the 4L60E depends on the truck's options.
hope it helps.
SOURCE: low oil pressure
It is a plu located directly above your filter on the oil filter adapter housing.. its about 3 inches long with wires plugged into it.. takes a special little socket to remove it...10 dollars at auto stores for the socket...
SOURCE: blower motor resistor replacement
the relays are behind the glove box. you have to take the glove box out to have access to the relay for the heating system
SOURCE: 1996 chevy silverado z71 electronic transfer case wont work
It's the transfer case vacuum switch. Easy fix.
SOURCE: 97 GMC Z71 4X4 Not Locking in
If it's a shift - on - the - fly 4wd, then call your local Chevy truck dealer. There was a recall on the Electronic 4wd on these trucks. (common problem). Try this just for the heck of it. With the truck stopped, put in 4hi/lo, then put it in reverse. Back up slightly, (about 5ft or so) and then put it in drive (or first in a manual trans) and go forward. Did it lock in? If it locks in but won't unlock, try backing up to unlock. Hope this helps.
