Just a thought: the ignition module on the distributor (called a TFI -thick film integrated-whatever that means-module) but it is the ignition module. Swap in a used one and see if it works.
Or is the advance working on the timing? Is it vacuum advance or computer controlled? Vacuum advance will have a small housing on the dist. with a vacuum hose attached. A ported signal from the carburetor should provide vacuum advance. Ported means it only has a vacuum when the throttle is raised off idle. And then there are centrifugal weights inside the dist. that provide centrifugal advance-when engine is revved, the weights cause the timing to advance a slight amount. Vacuum advance is a greater degree of advancing the timing. Best way to check if your advance is working is to put a timing light on it. While at it, check if your base timing is correct. I don't know the specs for your engine. Check a repair manual, or ask at maybe, autozone.
The little weights in the bottom of the distributor housing are attached to tiny springs that move a plate to advance timing. Over time, age attacks the effectiveness of all that stuff-caked dirt and oil and all kinds of rusts, you know. The springs can rust and break. The only way to get to them is usually to take the distributor out and disassemble the whole thing. That's why you should use a timing light to check timing and advance properties. Getting the computer to control timing and spark advance was a big improvement in vehicle design. It means a lot less little mechanical things that always wear out.
Other things you might check are the egr valve and the pcv valve.
That's the characteristic's of a throttle position switch cut's out at 55 mi per hr and stall's at acceleration..This is also a symptom of a throttle accelerator pump, not to mention water in the carb and or fuel system hope this help's.

I Have a 1999 ford f150 4.6 that back fires and is just running really ruff when idling alot of nack fire a sord of like a pulse going on what is my problem?

Check for any trouble codes in the engine computer, and have the fuel pressure tested. If it is throttle body injection. observe the spray pattern of the injector when it pulses. You should see a cone pattern of the fuel spraying down into the intake. If it drips, or appears anemic, the injector might be partially clogged. Try some injector cleaner in the gas tank.
