My 2001 Ford Explorer jumped time, I just put in a different used engine in last night, I drove it for about 3 hours last night it drove good. This morning I went to crank it up and it jumped time again. What happened and why did this happen again with a different engine?

The new engine I put in last night jumped time.

It starts right up but it has a loud knocking noise.

This engine has 107,000 miles on it. It drove good last night.

The old engine had 93,000 miles on it and it jumped time.

My question is can I swap this engine from my 1999 explorer to a 2003 model? The both engines are 4.0 SOHC

You said it jump time twice .describe what engine doing .is it back firing loping or hard to crank.

  • Jonah Oneal May 10, 2009

knocking sound like main bearing noise.2003 -2004 is three or four year difference.taking a chance .you could get the same engine if the timing is the same .valve timing and injection timing.ignition wire hook up same and same tranny .but you going to have pcm problems.you going to have cranking problems.

  • Jonah Oneal May 11, 2009

yep long as every thing the same.you probably going to have it reprogram .i knew a few guys swap engines and had cranking problems.they had to reprogram it.when you get it hook up let me know how it goes you might luck up and it cranks.

2001 Ford F-150 why RPMs too high?

The most common cause is an engine vacuum leak at the intake manifold. Get a can of carb spray and spray around the top of the engine, when you hit a leak you will hear the difference and the engine will slow down.

2000 ford 4.0 explorer cranks but fails to start. It acts like it starts after sitting all night but then only cranks, what is wrong?

Check for spark to the sparkplug. Try a shot of starting fluid as having gas pumping and having the fuel injectors opening are 2 different things. If you have spark, then the fuel injectors may not be working. Quick diagnosis is to use starting fluid and see if engine tries to run. This indicates problem is not lack of spark but lack of fuel getting into cylinders.

While driving the vehicle last night the egr valve exploded. replaced it late last night. drove it today and the same thing happened. car needed towed. what will cause the egr to explode and how do i fix...

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. If the EGR valve exploded, then there is most likely a restriction in the system. You may need to remove the valve and look for a build up of carbon or burnt oil. the process may get time consuming as you may need to disassemble parts of the engine.

I bought a 2001 cadi deville w/ a northstar engine.Drove car at night when it was about 60 degrees for about an hour it drove great. Next day it was very hot out and drove for an hour and car overheated....

Hello, The blue fluid will turn yellow, once you use the fluid throw it away. Do not mix it with the good fluid left over. I have never kept it long enough to see what happens later. It also sounds like you have a plugged radiator. Someone may have put stop leak to try and cover up a leaking head gasket.

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.
