Blown Fuse / Electrical problem??

Recently, my radio/interior lights/remote keyless entry would just stop working. Everytime, I have changed the fuse to fix the problem. It would normally temporarily fix the problem until about a couple weeks later when it would happen. Yesterday I tried changing the fuse again after it had blown, and right as I would put a fuse in, the fuse would spark & was blown right away. What could this mean, and how much do you think it will cost to get it fixed?

There is a short curcuit in the circuit that fuse protects. Is the radio original equipment or is it an aftermarket radio that has been replaced before? If it has been "worked on" by anyone lately or is not OEM, I would concentrate some there 1st to find the wire being "grounded or shorted". Also, check the door switches to see if they are loose or causing a wire to short against the door jamb. If you can't find the cause of the short, take it to an ASE certified electrical specialist, they will know how to diagnose and repair it. Electrical problems are extremely difficult to diagnose without seeing the car and therefore the price to fix the problem would be difficult to predict as well. But a specialist would likely find the problem in the least amount of time, and though their rates may be higher/hour, the outcome may still be quite a bit lower because they will find the problem faster due to their higher competence. Best wishes!

You have a short circuit somewhere..possibly in radio itself. if fuse feeds all 3,unplug radio and see if fuse still blows..electrical problems can be time consuming

The radio won't turn on in my 2004 dodge neon

Has any work been done under the dash. Sounds like you have wire grounded to radio or something else the fuse sends power to.
Maybe you could unhook hot wire to radio. if fuse blows again you know it is not the radio.

Remote door opener on 2002 elantra gl does not work. The fuse is blown and I cannot locate it.

the keyless entry does not have a fuse itself however the vehicle has a iod, or storage fuse, that will disable the keyless system but other accessories wont function, the dome light , clock, or radio, if those items work then the fuse is good. check the remote itself, the dealer can check the remote n/c, if the remote is ok than the relay can be bad or the alarm module, best advice, take it to the dealer, they will know whats wrong with it and it wont cost too much to diag .

CLock, radio, dome lights, speedometer, keyless entry dont work

Check fuse 8 (10 amp fuse) in the under dash fuse panel. Make sure you have voltage to it on both sides of the fuse. This fuse feeds all of the items you listed.

Same problem with an '03 Golf--remote entry, power windows, and interior lights stopped working. This was easily fixed by replacing fuse #14, (10 amp), located in the driver's side fuse block.

Fuse or what

Your multifunction switch on the steering column controls your exterior lights. The GEM module controls the interior lights and other stuff. If bad, it would not blow fuses. WHich fuse blows?
Your Ford dealer might be familiar with this issue, so call the service dept and ask them and get a quote. It may be wiring.

  • The high beams are inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Multifunction switch.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test C .

--------------------------------------------------------------
Principles of Operation
Generic Electronic Module (GEM) The generic electronic module (GEM) receives inputs from the following:
  • door ajar switches
  • liftgate ajar switch (wagon)
  • liftgate glass switch (wagon)
  • headlamp switch
  • keyless entry keypad switches
  • the powertrain control module (PCM) (vehicle speed signal)
  • ignition switch
  • remote keyless entry transmitter
The GEM uses these inputs to control the output to the battery saver relay and interior lamp relay. Both relays are integral to the central junction box (CJB) and cannot be accessed directly.
Interior Lighting Systems The GEM grounds the battery saver relay and interior lamp relay coils when any door ajar switch or the headlamp switch is closed. The interior lamp relay then supplies power to the interior lamp circuit. Vehicle speed must be less than 15 kph (9 mph) for the GEM to ground the interior lamp relay. The interior lamps will remain illuminated for a period of up to 25 seconds after all doors are closed or until the ignition is switched from the OFF position, or the GEM receives a vehicle speed signal. Actuating the interior lights from the headlamp switch will operate at any time.
Illuminated Entry Illuminated entry is activated when a keyless entry keypad switch provides ground on the GEM input or when the GEM receives an unlock signal from the remote keyless entry key fob. The GEM then provides ground to the battery saver and interior lamp relay coils. Illuminated entry is deactivated when the GEM receives a lock signal from the remote keyless entry key fob or if the GEM receives ground inputs from the keyless entry keypad switch lock code. Illuminated entry will also be deactivated when the GEM receives input voltage from the ignition switch.
Battery Saver The battery saver is activated when the GEM is not receiving voltage input from the ignition switch (off position). The GEM will then provide ground to the battery saver relay coil for a maximum of 30 minutes depending on the state of the interior lamp switch inputs to the GEM. The energized battery saver relay switches voltage to the demand lamp circuit and the interior lamp relay coil. After time-out, the GEM removes ground to the battery saver relay disabling the demand lamp circuit.
Puddle Lamps The puddle lamp relay operates reverse from the battery saver relay and the interior lamp relay. The puddle lamp relay coil receives voltage when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position, which disables the circuit to the puddle lamps.
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
