My 2005 equinox runs at a high temperature in idle and the heater doesn't work properly.

The water temperature gets high when the vehicle is in Idle. The heater takes an excessive amount of time to warm up. The thermostat has been replaced and the problem persists. Could the issue be the water pump?

Could be because the water doesnt seem to be circulating .... remove the pump next and check the impellar ,,,, after that if its ok i would flush out both heater rad and engine rad to clear any blockages

SOURCE: Problem with No Heat on 2005 Chevy Avalanche - Cooling System?

it is most likey a sticking thermostat it either gets stuck closed or open in your case closed so collant isnt getting to the heater core and all you get is cold air blowing into the truck.
its a simple fix you can either do it your self or take it to a mechanic. now remember there are differnt thermostes so think about the climat you live in and get one according to that

SOURCE: Water pump on 2005 Chevy Equinox

Water pump is locate on the front center of the engine.

I will rate water pump change as a 7/10 in difficulty scale.

You should check for special tool(s) requirement from the library before you start.

It's a good time to change the drive belt at the same time.

50/50 coolant mix is fine.

If you haul heavy load or in cold climate then bump it up to 60/40 mix

DO NOT FORGET to find or draw the belt routing diagram before you undo the tension.

A 30 second sketch will save you a lot of time.

SOURCE: my heater takes a long time to warm up

You may need a new thermostat. They are cheap and easy to install on a blazer. They sell different temp ones. ask for a higher temp thermostat if you want warmer heat. Also it would be a good idea to get the cooling system flushed. That helps a lot.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the answer. A new water pump and radiator was installed."

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox and my AC only blows

I believe this will fix your problem. Read the reviews at the bottom of the page. The same compressor is on some Fords.http://www.acpartshouse.com/showitem.aspx?&id=116597&name=New%20A%2FC%20Compressor%20Control%20Valve

Do the cooling fans come on ? Your vehicle should have two fans controlled by The PCM - engine computer energizing three different relay's for low and high speed .

Why does my2004 gmc envoy xl slt idle high at startup?

This is normal. All vehicles idle high at start up to get the engine to operating temperature. This is known as open loop. The computer ignores signals from O2 sensors to keep your engine running safely. Once it has warmed up, it will enter closed loop, and you will see a decrease in idle.

Little heat coming out of vents.

IF YOU CAN'T FEEL THE AIR FLOW OUT BUT YOU HEAR THE BLOWER MOTOR WORKING, BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX IS A CABIN FILTER.REPLACE FILTER
IF YOU HAVE GOOD AIR FLOW BUT NO HEAT:
1;VACUUM LEAKING TO HEATER CONTROL
2;WATER PUMP GOING BAD / NOT CIRCULATING COOLANT,HIGH RPM/MORE COOLANT TO THE HEATER CORE
3;OPEN THERMOSTAT/ENGINE TEMPERATURE TO LOW
1;CHANGE THE DIRECTION FROM VENTS TO FLOUR TO WINDSHIELD. IF NOTHING HAPPEN IS THE VACUUM
2;RUN THE ENGINE INSIDE ON WARM PLACE ON IDLE.NOTE THE GAUGE IF PAS 1/2 TO 3/4. IF PAS 3/4 MARK REPLACE WATER PUMP
3;IF GAUGE STAY BELOW 1/2 REPLACE THERMOSTAT
GOOD LUCK

try flushing the heater core out with a garden hose ,as for the idle well this vehicle is different to the europeon models for this age so i would advise asking a local mechanic to have a look for you but i suspect the idle control valve ,but in all honesty any electrical components can be affected by the cold from radios to sensors or stepper motors like what control the idle

My AC blows hot air at stop lights. It works great when the car is running on the free way, but does not work when the car slows down. Any idea what the problem is????

Have you radiator clutch fan check out, sounds like its bad, air blows through radiator and a/c condenser while driving and no air blows through at stops, will cause a/c pressure to go up and not cool.

Why is the heat blowing cold air but at a really high idle it blow hot air for little period of time.the temp of the engine is 195degrees. all the fan controls and the temp control is in the hot position

you could have a couple things going on. possible low coolant? most likely cause as i assume you have checked coolant level would be heater core restricted. to fix this you remove heater hoses and back flush heater core with water. if this does not do it you may have a water pump not circulating at idle but this usually comes with vehicle running hot at idle.
