Just recently my S70 has black smoke coming from the exhaust.
I brought it in to the dealership. Just on the drive there the ABS light, traction control light and check engine light all turned on.
The dealership doesn't have time to look at it immediately and will take a look at it later this week.
However, it doesn't look promising. If anyone has any ideas that'll help so I can get an early assessment of the costs.
Other than the problems I'm begining to wonder if it's even worth it to repair if the costs are upwards to 2K to 3K. Most places offer a few thousand more than that for the car. What has been experience of other owners of the 1999 S70 so far? Solid? If I can get another 2 to 3 years from the car the costs are justified if not I think it's probably best to get a new car.
Any clue to what the problem is and if it is worth it to fix the car? (BTW, it's a 1999 Volvo S70)
Volvo is a great car and usually very reliable, the blacl smoke is from too much gas or not enough spark, check to make sure all the brake lights in the rear work,if a bulb is out it could trigger the ABS light, have one of the bigger auto stores scan the car for you and get back to me with the codes, we'll go from there please rate my fix as i strive to be the best Ray
Sounds like computer to me , black smoke might just be due to fuel /air mixture.
Avoid dealerships , find a reputable mechanic.
Almost any shop can plug your car into a diagnostic computer .
If you live close to me , I would be happy to take an s-70 off your hands :)
