Are you sure it was the speed sensor.... speed sensor fail will also affect the abs.... now cam or crank sensor will put engine in limp mode.

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.

SOURCE: check engine light on . engine speed sensor

The engine speed signal code is generated from the crank sensor. The crank sensor is located on the back side of the engine block. See image.

SOURCE: 98 Nissan Maxima - Check Engine Light, Knock Sensor

If the car is pinging you will set a knock sensor code.'
This comes from bad gas and running lean., You really need this professionally inspected to rule out the basics. I have seen alot of nissans with the knock sensor code stored but the light is still off.
Fill up the tank with high octane chevron and some techron injector cleaner and clear the light. If it stays off for a couple days then go get it inspected. Even if the code is stored it will still pass as long as the light is still off and the monitors have run.

Service engine light and abs senor light will not turn off

Some times the wheel speed sensor will go out on either side. This will make the A.B.S. light come on. But I dont see why the service engine light would come on. I would segest changing all wheel speed sensors and take it for a drive. The A.B.S. light should go out. If the service engine light dose not go out your local auto parts stors can run a diagnostics test to tell you what the light is on for.

Please contact me if your problem presists.

Thanks, Charlie
