GMC Sierra A/C Stops Cooling After Driving a Few Minutes

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. When first starting the truck the air conditioning works as it should for 5-10 minutes of driving. Then the air blown into the cabin loses its cool feeing and smells stuffy. This happens regardless of the setting for outside or recirculated air.

It sounds like you either have an condensor fan problem or low freon. The condensor fan is near the radiator. In some cases the radiator fan doubles as the condensor fan. So look there too.

  1. Air conditioner system is discharged. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by an MVAC certified technician, utilizing approved recovery/recycling equipment. Repair as necessary.
  2. Air conditioner compressor clutch not engaging. Check compressor clutch wiring, electrical connections and compressor clutch, and repair or replace as necessary.

The air conditioning system need to be fill with gas,there is not enough gas in it that why it is doing that,Hope that help you,If there is not enough gas ,when you switch on the ac button it turns the ac compressor and cut off immediately because there is not enough gas.
