When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? If the fuel filter is clogged, it will run, then lose power and finally stop as fuel flow restriction increases due to dirty fuel filter. Get a 2nd opinion from another shop. "Engine management system" means he wants to replace the ECM (electronic control module, or computer brain), which usually last over 500k miles unless it suffered water damage because the vehicle had been submerged in flood waters. If your Hyundai Imax was regularly serviced, did the shop follow factory maintenance schedule, which includes replacing key components (like the fuel filter) after certain miles are reached on the odometer??
Is there black exhaust smoke same time as lost of HP?? Then dirty fuel injectors can cause lost of HP and increased exhaust as injectors fail to properly atomize the fuel. Ask "whats the factory maintenance schedule for a Hyundai Imax?" If they can't show a factory recommended service schedule list, IMO you're getting scammed and exploited of your lack of mechanical knowledge. Did the "check engine" light came on before you had these problems? The sensors are suppose to warn you before major problems come up. Unless, someone disabled the sensors in the past, or reprogrammed the ECM to ignore the sensors and not to light up "check engine" light on instrument console. Had you always gone to the same shop? Look at your past receipts in the last 3 or 4 years and see if the factory recommended schedule had been followed by the shop. That's why its called "preventive maintenance," to avoid huge repair bills in the future like you're now experiencing. Regular service is useless if the key components are not replaced on the factory service schedule list.

Check air lines for hissing if you find a hissing sound fix it, idling problem can be the idle control valve needs cleaning out. losing power can be the fuel pressure regulator. if the fuel regulator is playing up it will be rough idling and loss of power. and a air leak in the line can make the regulator not work 100%..

Have the fault codes read to check for sensor faults . Go somewhere else to get the job done as I feel you are being touched in the wallet.

SOURCE: Engine stops while driving & engine revs high between gear change

hi i am dieter
im dave

here is something to try
keep some cold water with you and the next time it happens very quickly get out and pour the water on the crankshaft sensor then restart. If it starts right away without the usual two minutes than you will need to change this sensor. The sensor is easy to find you will see a wiring harness around the crankshaft pulley(the large one at the bottom the basically runs all your accessories like the p/s pump, alternator, water pump). Try to famaliarize yourself as to the location of the sensor first so that you can try to restart it within about 30 seconds.

SOURCE: audi tt 180 quattro car wont start. EPC and E-M system lights on

I would suggest you check oil levels etc. Generally these cars suffer from the air mass meter / air sensor problems aswell as coil problems too. Did you ever get a solution to the problem?

2004 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 roughidle and stall on deceleration

it sometimes stalls when decelerating. Here are a few possible causes for these issues:

1. Vacuum leak: Check for any vacuum leaks in the engine. A leaking vacuum hose or intake manifold gasket can cause a rough idle and stalling. Inspect all vacuum hoses and fittings, and consider using a smoke machine to help identify any leaks.

2. Idle Air Control (IAC) valve: The IAC valve controls the amount of air entering the engine during idle. If it becomes dirty or faulty, it can cause a rough idle. Try cleaning the IAC valve with an appropriate cleaner or consider replacing it if necessary.

3. Fuel system issues: A clogged fuel filter or a malfunctioning fuel pump can lead to insufficient fuel delivery at idle, causing rough idling and stalling. Consider inspecting and replacing the fuel filter if necessary. It may also be worth checking the fuel pressure to ensure it is within the manufacturer's specifications.

4. Mass Air Flow (MAF)

Car running rough at random when accelerating and also idle drops suddenly when slowing down and often completely stalls out when I stop. Smells strongly of gasoline when it stalls/almost stalls but I

This could be a lot of things. one of the tests that you need to run is shift it into nuetral when you are stopping and see if it still drops RPM and wants to stall. This will eliminate or conclude that it is a transmission issue. If it is still doing this then it could be a vacuum leak or fuel delivery issue.

you really need a code reader and find the trouble code .
but in the mean time make sure the firing order is correct.

Revs drop coming to standstill

Here is the cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
