Mcgyver465 or anyone,
My car is showing code 41 which is "heater switch" to the Oxygen sensor.
If this switch was bad would it cause these symtpoms? . .
Somebody keeps telling me that I need a new catalytic converter or
test pipe.If there was a problem w/ the CConv , would that show up
as a seperate code on my computer?
thanks
D
A plugged catalytic converter can set codes, but I think we need to concentrate on smoke right now. That's not saying that the converter wasn't a partial, or the cause of the white smoke. Has your oil level or coolant level been going down, or up recently, since this all started ?
You say he cleaned all the insides of the catalytic converter out, so there is no blockage there now, correct? Did you erase the code when you replaced the oxygen sensor, and it came back again? Finally, if you have white smoke rolling out your exhaust, it is usually caused by oil or coolant consumption getting into the cylinder, which could also be causing oxygen sensor to foul up & cause a code. I'd concentrate on finding the cause of the white smoke first. Cooling system pressure test, engine compression check should tell you , but so should consumption of oil or coolant increase. If the problem originated at the converter (plugged) it may have caused a blown head gasket for one thing. I'll wait for your reply.

motor1258,
Sorry I confused you and myself with the question.
My car was showing a code 41 which is the heater switch
to the O2 sensor .. .well, i had someone just put one in (02 sensor)
so when I had it hooked up to a scanner that showed 02 problem,
i said "can't be, I just replaced that' , they said you could have
gotten a bad once or the wiring to the 02 might be bad,
so told the guy that works on my car this and he replace
the 02 sensor a 2nd time. . .(((( .problem i still have is
my car is blowing white smoke from the exhaust and I smell
very strong gas/exhaust fumes in my car))))). What could be
causing this? IT's not the catalytic converter either becuae
he used a big pipe and cleaned it out. hope this clairifies the original question.
Thanks
D
