i have the same problem with a 1999 Td5 Auto. The harmonic damper on the transfer box was loose. I eventually removed this as it had no bearing on the vibration. As with your TD5 the car goes fine with no other syptoms. I have heard that the noise can be made worse because the transmission brake shoes rattle. I intend to investigate the ehaust baffles as well. Interestingly when running the engine at 2500rpm while gearbox in neutral and running down hill at ~50mph the vibration is absent. So it seems to be dependent on the drivetrain being under load, and not just the engine being at 2500rpm.

I had the same problem. The u-joint on the front propeller shaft was bad and the yoke where there are 2 u-joints had to be repaired also. Vibration went away from 30-60. Still have a deep vibration at 72+mph.

The "lift off and it goes away" is the clue I feel. This eliminates engine out of balance issues and points squarely to fueling issues. I would say try a compression test (always a good first start before you try much else) but with plenty of power and no vibration except in the range, probably not a compression issue. So, what's left? Fuel or air is the answer. Check air inlet path is from air filter to turbo and (more importantly) from turbo to intake manifold. Check wastegate on turbo is OK - disconnect the wastegate (it's bolted on to the turbo) hose, then **** on the wastegate hose, you should feel resistance. If not wastegate aneroid has perforated. At this point, I suggest taking it to a LR dealer and get them to pull all the engine codes. If all OK, next step is injectors. It's a common rail diesel and removal is a bit tricky, but if you pull them out, you will often be able to see a single injector with all the carbon deposits around it. If all injectors look the same, suggest that at this point you need to take them to a diesel specialist for testing and calibrating. This process usually cures 70% of diesel misfire problems. The other 30% really requires specialist knowledge of your vehicle's engine.

I'm just a novice in these matters, but my td5 auto developed the same sort of symptoms and it was a front wheel bearing. Jack each wheel up individualy and give em a good rattle. If theres any give that might be your problem.

Bad vibration when in gear but idle speed

I'm not sure exactly which vehicle you have so I'll try to be genera yet as specific as possible to help you determine the problem. I'm assuming here its a Gas Fuel engine.

1.) if its a carburetor type engine, You may need to adjust the RPM to increase or lower the Idle. Its commonly called the Ideal screw and adjust the air fuel ratio to stabilize the engine fuel mixture to increase the RPM.. its found on the Carburetor.

2.) ts fuel injected you will need to adjust the throttle body position to archive the same effect.

if it has a distributor , you can turn the distributor as well to adjust the RPM.

rough idling is usually caused by Mounts, since you changed yours the next most likely issue is the RPM itself or idling speed / rpm. If its to low you ill have that issue.

other possible cause is the distributor points (if any).. bad plugs, bad plug wires.. but those cause other issues while driving as well.

1998 Z3.. Manual Trans shudder under acceleration in 2nd gear as it nears 2000 rpms, then goes away as it approaches 2500 rpm's.. Any suggestions?.. Thanks

It could either be the flex disc or drive shaft center bearing. I had the same problem on my 98 Z3 and I replaced both and it took care of the problem.

How to know your automatic transmission is working fine

Auto. Transmition when giving trouble will not change up until R.P.M. has gone over 2500 rpm. Should should change up between 2000 and 2500. When changing it down (pushing accelerator to the floor) it should do this imedietly. Isuzu Troopers have a power button on the console between the front seat's this is for trailer pulling and when it is on.(power light on in Dashboard) then it takes more R.P.M. to change up allowing for trailer weight.

2000 Montero Sport shutters/vibrates in 2 and 3 gears

Could be a wheel bearing and/or a rear differential pinion bearing, which usually get worse when under load(going up hill). I would definitely start there.

Jeep Cherokee Sport 2.5 D

By power washing it you probably have water in the electrics and the electronics!! Take the Jeep to a good auto electrician and he might be able to tell you where the problem is. At least then you'll know where to start looking.
THIS is what happens when you pressure wash modern engines!!
