01 to 02 KIA Rio rear drum brake spring and pad placement

The brake drum does not fit due to the pressure in brake cylinders. Some of the cylinders are designed to keep a little pressure on, even when the pedal is released. The reason is that you will have instant reaction on pushing break pedal because there is no free space between drum and pads. You need to take clamp and push the pistons back in cylinder, but only that much so you can fit the drum. After the drum is tightened you must pump the brake pedal until you can fell that there is no free fall. The hand brake should be ok, but check it just to be shore. If there is need to tension the cable, it can be done under lever from outside the car (you must go under the car).

i could be that 1 or both of your callipars on ur brakes have sizzd thats what happend to mine

This noise could be generated from the front brake pads and rotors. Or brake dust accumulation in the rear brake drums. A simple cleaning process will/should fix this issue for you. Hope this helps...

Here is instructions to REMOVE brakes.. Reverse procedure to install.

Do one at a time, so as to use the other as a guide for replacement.

parking brakes are adjusted at and with the rear brakes,..(drum brakes that is),.....as you adjust the rear brakes to have a slight drag as you spin tire, the parking brake is adjusted at the same time,...they work together with that one adjuster,....as you pull on the parking brake, it makes the brake shoes spread apart just as they do when you push the brake peddle,..by adjusting the rears you'll also find that the brake peddle feels better too.

Assuming that youve got drum brakes, they are self adjusting and cany be ajusted and more then they want without frying something, if they are not adjusting properly your self adjusters are probably frozen.
You can get them from kia for 20 bucks a piece and if you do get them unfrozen make sure to check the teeth on them, they are very fine and very commonly strip off, kia call them strut assembly.

THE BEARINGS CAN BE BAD AND THE WHEELS TIGHT.THE WHEEL BEARING IS A SEALED ROLLER BEARING.

The rear drums are held on by a spindle nut. You first must remove the dust cap then unstake the nut and remove it. Behind that is a retaining washer and the outer bearing. The bearings can become a little stuck in which case a hammer can usually persuade them to loosen up.
