What should i do? B16 or piston rings?

I am trying to decide whether i should buy a B16 vtec for $600 or replace my piston rings on my D15 non-vtec and then swap the head with a D16 vtec? i am going for as much power as i can and i know that the smart choice would be to get the b16. but i dont know what i would need and the cost of those items. any help would be great.

It comes down to what you want. if you can get the b16 get thats a good start for someone wanting to get into honda and fixing them up. all that other work b20 block b16 head ls b18b trany you could save for later when you've learned more, b16 is a good motor and fun, in the end do what you want. you can get a p28 ecu thats what i got pushing my gsr b18c1, you may want to flash it not everyone has money for a hondata, best thing i ever did with building cars start small and work your way up. hope that helps

Well its about what you want the single cams can rev high...the 2nd fastest world record is in a turbod d16 ...202mph for a single cam civic..the b16 has more dynamics in the high end of boosting... the b16 aftermarket is stronger but they **** on the low end of the rpm gauge..
the best motor is the b20 crv block its 500 bucks you can vtec it with a b16 head and run big loads of turbo and get to the 10 sec class of things...if you go to b series you will need to change the ecu to hondata and you should look for ls integra trannys...next the axles ...I reccomend B20 its a harder build but its worth it and youll spend 1000 less than an gsr or prelude motor...google the b20 dart motor with ITBS you will see!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

I seen turbos so big that they use a 100 shot of nos to spool them up !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

Oh the ecu you can choose an ex ecu get it chipped is a cheaper way or get jumper harnessess from rywire.com but really find a Hondata for an obd1 car

How to install a subwoofer and amplifier

When installing any electrical components always remember to unhook the battery. First thing you want to do is run your ground cable from a volt meter to a body or frame nut or bolt near by in the trunk or hatch area a shorter thicker ground is best then connect the other end of your volt meter to your battery cable that will need to be run through the firewall and connect to the positive battery terminal. Also VERY important make sure you have installed a fuse on the wire in between the amp and the battery. after you have connected the battery cable and ground to your meter it will light up or give you the correct reading for your ground, if not run the ground somewhere else until you have found the right spot. pull out your stereo, for stereos that are made to be compatible with an amp there will be multiple rca jacks in the back of the stereo. For a sub woofer you want to hook the rca cable to the rear or sub labeled rca jacks. Then run your amplifier remote wire to the remote wire protruding from the back of your car stereo. After that you can run the ground and battery cable to the correct slots. Now connect your sub via rca and your done. making it fit correctly is up to you. If you do not have an amp with a subwoofer out then you can take the wires from your sub and bridge the connection to your amp and get enough power, take the positive wire to your sub and hook it up to the positive terminal of channel one on the amp then take the negative wire from your sub and hook it into the negative terminal on channel two and your done.

What is the piston ring gap clearance for the ford laser

Which Piston Ring Gap? First of all you need to purchase a Hayne's Manual for your car. It will give you the specifications under the Engine section of the book. The piston has three rings on it. From the top you have your first compression ring, then your second compression ring (these "clearance" specifications or "gap"), should be the same as measured on the piston insofar as the clearance between the "lands and grooves" or between the ring and the piston groove. The third ring is your oil control ring which will have a different clearance between (for example), the top of the ring installed and the piston's groove. Then lastly, you need to place the compression rings and place them in the bore of the cylinder WITHOUT being installed on the piston. A measurement is then taken between the opening gap of the ring while in the block. To make sure it's lined up properly, invert a non-ringed piston down into the bore from the top to make sure the ring is installed at the same depth all the way around.

If you don't want to buy the Hayne's Manual, just stop by your local Dealership and get the Specifications for the two compression rings, the oil ring and the "installed" clearance or gap on the rings.

Hope this Helps,

~00 Buck~

Is it possible to make a d15b carburator engine to a vtec

In my opinion it is not worth it. In order to make your d15 a vtec engine, you will have to put a d16 head on it. That will require drilling new oil ports, converting the engine to fuel injection, changing out the computer, and a whole lot more things. You would wind up spending more money doing that than just doing a d16 complete swap. plus the d16 will have more power over all anyway compared to the d15 vtec. d15 is a 1.5L the d16 is 1.6L reguardless your gonna have more power with a d16. Just a suggestion.
