CLATTER NOISE FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD

Could be gasket leak on the manifold.

Bearing noise will usually stop after the oil pressure builds up, unless they are really bad. And then they usually screach. You may have a bad push rod, lifter or rocker arm. Try to locate which side it is comming from and remove the valve cover. The one in question will be sloppy. You can fix the rocker arm and rod from here. If it is a lifter you have to remove the intake manifold.

I assume we are talking about a motor noise. A lot of people assume a clicking sound is a valve noise. Most of the time a loud clicking noise is actually a bad exhaust gasket. An air leak on an automotive exhaust manifold sounds like a loud tick or click. Try changing the gaskets on both sides of the exhaust manifold . This should take care of the clicking.

check yor cv boots se if their torn (front drive axles ) if so the noise is comming from there. replace as necessary

no this will not cause a surging, could be the egr valve if that year model has one

It's hard to diagnose with just the small information you have stated, but it 'sounds' like it's that Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve gasket.

In your cylinder head is a runner that brings exhaust gas up through the intake manifold.
The EGR valve is attached to the intake manifold, and the sensory part of the EGR valve sits down in the pathway of the runner.

A bad EGR valve gasket will let exhaust gasses escape, making the sound you described.

how is the oil level and pressure?, how many miles on engine? is this a loud knock or rather a clatter/ticking noise? knock is engine rod or crankshaft bearings, clatter loud ticking is valve follower noise. how long before it (the noise) goes away?
