I just installed a new aftermarket radio on my 2002 325i bmw and my factory alarm key won't work as if the battery ran out. i was told that the original radio that i took off charges the key it self by some frequency from the radio. is this true........
That is FALSE. The radio has nothing to do with charging the keys battery. Some key batterys can be replace others get recharge through the key holder. Your Im pretty sure it can be replace, if not then more than likely you need a new battery or a new key. They are common to fail after several years.

no car told
year,maker,model. country?
of if alarm is oem or aftermarket installed. we cant see it./
the cars battery is dead
if head lamps fail key off and on
and radio dead key on is a super dead battery or fuses blown huge.
my guess is this.
1: battery lugs rusty or loose 4 ends
2: fuses blown.
The stock alarm systems on the e36's were wired all the way into the transponder key system. Best solution is probablly to go aftermarket. I have a 95 with an alarm and it isn't the greatest most bmw alarms up til 2000 or later you could break a window and it wouldn't go off. It was just in case someone tried to open the door. Go aftermarket and they are usually much easier to setup. Most wire right to the battery for power or you can steal power from something else. Good luck
I have run into this problem many times on your particular type of radio. I have worked in a gm dealership for years. Sometimes we can reprogram them and they work better, but all will eventually need replaced. The cheaper option is to have an aftermarket radio installed, for the price of a new factory radio, you could have a much nicer aftermarket unit.
Your options: Pull radio and have BMW send in for repairs (usual about 10 day turn around time) OR replace with aftermarket radio. Internal heat sometimes gets to factory BMW radios. You might also check Ebay for a factory replacement, just make sure you get code for new radio.
Here is information on disarming the alarm! First you need to know if it is a factor or after market system! Here is how you tell if the headlights are flashing, the alarm system is factory installed. Inserting the key into the driver door lock and turning to the left then back to the right is supposed to disarm it. If the parking lights are blinking,, the alarm is an aftermarket add on, and there should be a disarm button underthe dash on the driver side. If it' an aftermarket alarm, you should be able to have it removed. There is a way to bypass the factory alarm. There is a wiring harness in the driver's door. You will have to remove the door panel to find it. The wire is dark green and purple. Splice into that wire and ground it to the chassis and the alarm should no longer work
This worked with my truck, hopefully it will with the Camaro: Connect the battery cables, if you have a key fob for the alarm, press it to turn it off. Use the key to lock and unlock the door. My alarm isn't as new as yours, and was an aftermarket one, so it might not work, and you may have already tried this, but it's worth a shot if you didn't. Is it a factory installed system or aftermarket? Re-post the question if it doesn't work so someone else can help. Good luck.
Is this a factory installed alarm system? If so, unlocking the driver door with the key will allow the car to start. If not then you will have to remove the aftermarket alarm system to start the car.
If you have a factory alarm system you can get a new FOB (key chain alarm button) from a ford dealer, but it must be programmed using a scanner , before it will work in your vehicle.
SOME OF THE REMOTES REQUIRE THAT THE KEY BE IN THE IGNITION, IN THE ON POSITION. TAKE THE BATTERY OUT AND WAIT 10 MINUTES. THEN PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND INSTALL THE BATTERY WHILE THE KEY IS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
There is no remote wire on these newer trucks....03 and up....u have to buy the harness....although i didnt....i have an 03 gmc sierra and just pulled the schematic and matched the wires. And there is no programming to do on an aftermarket stereo.....I work for GMC and we cant program aftermarket stereos......if u buy the right harness ...and its over $100 then everything should work just fine.....and this does not disarm ur alarm system either....mine still works fine....hope this helps
