How do I replace the ignition (keys's lost) in the steering?

I've lost the keys to my Buick and GM gave me a replacement key but it does not work. The cylinder must have been changed. How do I change and replace the ignition on a 1993 Buick Regal?

Did u get a key that was the proper code? these keys have a little piece of resistive wire embedded in the key, does the key u had made have that? if not it will not work, u can't just get a key cut, they have numbers to select the proper resistance value for the key to work with your security system.

How do I pop a tilt locked steering wheel

Before you do anything DRASTIC, call your local GM dealer to see if he can cut you a new key using your VIN number. Some dealers do, some don't...they will need proof of ownership also.
Other suggestion would be a locksmith using "try-out keys".
Good Luck.

Remove broken key from gm ignition lock

Physically removing a piece of an ignition key from the tumbler is practically impossible. The tumbler is filled with spring loaded tabs which raise and lower against EVERY notch on a key. That resistance will fight your every motion as you try to back the key remnant out. As one tab releases, the next in line raises into the vacancy just created. GM, even with the "fob"/ chip installed in most of their keys, also put greater anti-theft detail into their ignition tumblers. IF this is an ignition lock that has a chip sensor, the practical repair is a complete key/tumbler replacement. This isn't a DIY repair. It will involve removing the steering wheel and column covers, air bag, AND re-coding the vehicle computer to accept and recognize the new key/chip code. The re-coding CAN be done at home. Immediately after the new tumbler is installed, leaving the ignition in the "run" position for 1 hour, will re-code the antitheft in the computer.

Ignition locked

The ignition lock cylinder tumblers get in a bind all the time on GM vehicles. It probably has little to do with inseting the wrong key. Try inserting the correct key and "jiggle" the key in the lock. You may have to jiggle it up and down and rotate (or try to rotate) the lock cylinder forward and backward. It will probably work just fine if you can wiggle it with just the right combination. If not, you may have a damaged lock cylinder and you will have to replace it. - most likely nothing you did....I change at least two or three of these things every week...VERY COMMON.

Ignition switch will not go into lock position, cannot remove key

Here's a company that has pages and a description of how torepair a stuck ignition lock & key or bad ignition switch on GMvehicles (for a small fee). They are broken down into stepby step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page. This covers many of the GM vehicles from 1997to 2006. http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/steering-column-repair-how-to-instructions/gm-buick-cadillac-chevrolet-oldsmobile-pontiac/gm-key-release-repair-instructions.php

I lost my buick century 2001 key....how do i replace it

Unless the Vehicle has been "re-keyed", any GM Buick Dealer can cut a new key, based on the VIN No. It will cost about $20-30 for an ignition key. A bit less for the Trunk and Doors.

I lost my keys and have to have a ride but i havent got the money to get a key cut. i need to know how to hotwire a 00 buick regal.

you can just try taking off the steering cowl and unscrewing the black cap (multifuntion switch/ignition switch) what about the steering lock?
If you have lost the keys forever then you may as well drill out the lock? youll have to buy a new ignition barell anyway.....
It's likely the car is immobilised though, it needs the proper key! although sometimes the immobiliser is disabled, sometimes it works sometimes it dosent...
good luck!
Leave feedback please.

No money! need key code 1990 buick lesabre

Contact your local Ford dealer. They may make you tow the car in or just provide proof of ownership (registration, bill of sale etc) that has the VIN number on it. They can find the right key with the VIN. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.
