SOURCE: driver door panel removal and re-connect door pull

You most likley have a damaged inside door handle. To remove the door panel, you must first remove the handle bezel. The trim piece around the handle. It is held in place by 4 retainer tabs, take a small flat screw driver, insert it between the bezel and handle. Gently pry away from the handle. If you look in the crack around the handle you will see the tabs. When you get that off, remove the switch assembly by prying up on it gently, unplug the wiring. There are 2 screws in the door panel where you pull the door shut, remove those also. Start at the bottom front of the door panel, pull outward firmly, but not violent. The retainers will come out, you will most likley break some, this is common. The inside handle is about $45 from your dealer. If it is the handle it is held in with 1 rivit, drill it out with a 3/16 drill. Replace the handle, reassemble. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 1995 Mercury Cougar Door Panel Removal

This nearly drove me crazy on our 1994 Cougar.
First remove the electric switch cover(window and mirror controls). Just pops out with a pry. Remove the harness attachments You will see a single screw into the door holding a bracket between door pad and door frame. Remove it.
Second, remove the door lamp plastic cover at the bottom rear of the door. You will find a second screw in there on the upper right corner. Remove it and you are ready. Pull the whole door pad upward and it comes right off. No popem plastic clips or anything else. Just 3 or 4 quarter circle retainers that pop over into the door when you push the pad back down

SOURCE: how to remove a 1999 civic se left door panel

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door

1997 mercury cougar door stuck shut

Hi there I had a similar problem on a 98' ford explorer and replaced the door lock actuator and solved the problem in one shot. If you never worked in cars well it will be a little tricky but if you have little experience well then you have to remove the door panels carefully to avoid damaging any plastic hold screws, once removed try to aceess the door lock from the panel to get it open since it is easier to work. Now with the door open and window up then remove the mounting brackets of the window in order to get to the lock actuator. It is hold by two only one screw just remove the wire hook up and remove actuator. install new one and put everything back good luck..
