I have replaced many oil pressure sensors in these vehicles which solves the problem most often. I would do this first as a fairly cheap and easy repair. If you still have the issue you may have an instrument cluster issue which to be properly diagnosed will have to be plugged into a gm dealer scanner. If neither parts of the gauging system are the issue i would buy and attach a manual oil pressure gauge in place of the sensor and physically observe the pressure while the issue is occuring. If you are actually losing pressure you may have an internal stickage of the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump. I have performed an engine oil flush on these engines to get the valve unstuck. I use the gunk motorflush which i purchase at a local carquest parts store. you will flush the engine, I usually flush two to three times as long as the bottle calls for bringing it up off of idle several times. then change the oil afterwards. The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch).That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube,might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day

the lifter noise might have been a bearing going bad or a piston ring. if you lost power you probably lost compression on one cylinder. Try checking your compression with a compression tester screwed into your spark plug socket. here is a site with a procedure.

the sensor is on the side of the engine block. there's two thing that monitors oil. a pressure switch turns you oil light on and you oil pressure sensor the operates your gauge, start with your sensor. that is near you oil filter that is where it gets it pressure reading from

poor oil circulation may need either more oil or a new oil pump, any other symptoms?
It could just be the pressure sensor, as this is cheaper get it looked at first.
