The fuse for the ABS in a 2002 Highlander is in the black plastic covered box under the hood. If you take the fuse out, the ABS warning light and the emergency brake warning light will illuminate on your dashboard. The brakes will work as if you never had ABS, and the car will chime when you first start off if the emergency brakes are on.

Is it not obvious to you, that you have a possible
system malfunction in the ABS Braking System?

The light is on & you should be giving us what ever
codes you have,if you have a question.

Any light on the dash of any vehicle,you need to have it
checked out ,diagnosed & repaired in a few days, or don't
continue to use any vehicle with problems.

And don't clear the light,you need the codes to find
out where to start on solving the issues

If the shift console is on floor then look for bolts holding it down.  Take out bolts and then you can maneuver console so you can see where light is plugged in and get the right light to replace it.  It will probably be a small light which tend to cost a bit more, but at least you'll have the light back.

have you been stuck on ice or snow lately? if so then check the shocks and struts you may have a sensor that got contaminated

Look for a blown Brake Lamp fuse, or a faulty brake lamp switch, which is located above the brake pedal.

RE: 2002 Toyota Highlander 2.4cyl. 4X4 Base Model

I am a Certified Technician and have basic knowledge with electronics in electrical wiring. I searched the web and discovered this is a common problem.

I fixed the problem and it was a simple procedure... The problem is with the reverse light socket at the side with no brake light. This socket functions as a hub to direct current to the brake bulbs.

Remove reverse light socket and re-seat bulb. Check for loose or broken prongs. Replace if necessary.

Swap the reverse socket with the other side.

The ABS light stays on if there is a malfunction in the ABS system. If you DID get it turned off; & only by using a scan tool, it would come right back on if the vehicle has a definite malfunction.
Checking the Hybrid System: You def need a Toyota scan tool. No other way to check it.
