Landrover 96 hey mate, i have recently bought a land rover 1996 model discovery, im just enquiring were should the diff lock gear stick be positioned during standard highway driving?

start in middle and work outwards alternately ,bolt torque 80lbs and pull down if three passes ,speed key --rachet- torque wrench .although iam posting this i never use a torque wrench i go by the feel of the bolt stretching ,make sure heads have been checked and skimmed before refitting

Gear clunking is normal in the Rover's transfer case. It uses straight cut gears - they are stronger, but louder. If not out of the T-Case, check the front driveshaft - another common wear point.

When i shut off my 94 Landrover Discovery, somethig is still running in the engine. Sounds like a low vavuum or something, but no fan blabes are moving. It makes that sound until the battery is drained. Do you know what it is and how to fix it?

check and see if the window lock is on or not, driver side window and sunroof will still function when window lock is activated however, the other windows will not work, even by the drivers control, it should be the button on the top right next to your power door lock switch,

The 1996 discovery is full time 4wd and can only be changed from high to low range using the transfer case shifter with the truck in neutral rolling between 1-5mph. you can also move the same lever left to right to engage the transfer case diff lock

Check fuses.

Short answer no! The vehicle is designed to be in 4x4 mode all the time. Long answer is Yes! But you will have to remove the Front propshaft and select Diff lock on (Small gear lever in front of main gear lever). When the diff lock is on a green light will illuminate on the dash near the speedo. This is not recommended for long duration, but is pefectly OK for a short trip on road to get you out of a fix, or for fault finding.

its the capasator needs replacing you blew it up.

Make sure you are on level ground. All 4 wheels must be =. Play around with the diff-lock switch.
