I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. It is currently running real rough. The engine light when accelerating blinks, and when maintaining speed stays on. Checked the error code and came up with p0301, cylinder 1 misfire. Any advice on how to remedy this problem? Thanks
changed the spark plugs, now I have 3 more error messages, coil a, b, & d, secondary circuit. Any suggestions? changed the spark plugs, now I have 3 more error messages, coil a, b, & d, secondary circuit. Any suggestions?

First step is to check the plugs; hearing a lot online about this being a fuel injector problem. You can try injector cleaner, check the plugs and wires (clear the code) and see if this clears your problem. If not, it's likely fuel injector(s) is bad.
That link described the symptoms and possible causes as well as course of action. I do hope this clarifies your problem. I still believe from what I've read online that it's a fuel injector problem but you can judge for yourself. Best of luck to you.

Have you checked for a broken valve spring. Repaired a dodge engine with the same running issue as you have described and it was a broken intake valve spring.
Check engine compression and compare. then test running engine compression most engines have about 130-170 cranking compression and about 90-110 running compression. OR bring that cylinder to its Top Dead Center compression stroke apply air to the cylinder and check to see where the air is going open throttle plate bad intake valve, from exhaust pipe bad exhaust valve, from oil cap piston rings.
Sounds like you overheated, the clicking sound could be preignition ping. Check coolant lever. Don’t fill when hot, let engine cool down before refilling coolant
I had a similar problem with my Dodge truck.I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires and the check engine light went out. Within 4 days the light came back on with codes for multiple misfires..To make a long story short, I put electrical tape on the wires to adjacent cylinders and the problem was solved. Answer; The pluig wires they are making for Dodge are really cheap!
P0301-P0308....2T catalyst........2004-05 Ram...Cylinder 1-8 Misfire Detected Conditions: Any time engine is running and the adaptive numerator has been successfully updated. When more than 1.5% (300M, Magnum), 2% (Durango, Ram), 2.5% (Durango LEV, Ram LEV), misfire rate is measured during 2 trips, or with 10-30% misfire during 1 trip. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL. Possible Causes: ASD relay output 2 circuit fault Injector control 1 circuit fault Coil control 1 circuit fault Ignition wiring, spark plug, or ignition coil fault Fuel pump inlet strainer plugged Restricted fuel supply line Fuel pump module fault Fuel pressure leakdown fault Fuel injector is damaged or has failed Engine mechanical problems exist PCM has failed. Hope this helps you. Thank You for using fixya. If you like this solution please rate it....Thank You, iluv2fish....Ray
sounds like your have a misfire in one of your cylinders...a flashing check engine light with engine running rough. Check your sparkplugs and wires. you should have the code scanned.
OBD II 300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.
Possible Causes:
Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors and computer issues Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine Incorrect Fuel Pressure EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to: Faulty spark plugs Faulty coil or related wiring Ignition module or related wiring issues Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues
thanks, I'll give it a try. much appreciated
