3RD GEAR IS THE DIRECT CLUTCHES . WHEN THE GROMMET BROKE YOU LOST LINE PRESSURE IN THE TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN BURNING THE CLUTCHES .THE ONLY FIX IS TO REBUILD OR REPLACE TRANNY.BAD DESIGN BY FORD .YOU CAN FIND A BRONZE ONE AFTERMARKET

  • Charles Morris Nov 08, 2014

Please give us a link or some search terms to find the bronze part; can't find part with internet search. Several Ford parts departments don't know where to get part, either. Thank you.

92 dodge ram 150 not shifting

Two things happen on the Dodge's. 1. the rear O2 sensor shorts out and meses things up. 2. the Inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) shrinks and causes a delayed up shift.

1992 Ford Thunderbird Sport 5.0 HO V8 Stock AOD transmission slipping when cold, gets better when hot.

check for a clogged cooler in your radiator. back flush it. if you had a weak pump the problem would be exactly opposite of what you are describing; as a matter of fact, the majority of transmission complaints are related to a warm trans, not a cold one. I am interested in what you find out; keep in touch. btw, your throttle to trans cable is adjusted to zero lash at idle.

Windshield wipers don't move, but hear motor running

check the nuts on the wiper arms and make sure they are tight. If the nuts are tight then a linkage on the wiper transmission probably came loose or broke. You'll have to pull some cowling off to access it.

2003 Thunderbird Transmission Problems:The car has been fun to drive and I don't regret buying it - However, the transmission had problems from the factory, and now - at 150k miles, they are telling me it...

Your trans is about the same as a Lincoln LS
and newer Mustangs

A transmission is due for a rebuild, usually
before 150,000 miles. (I used to own a trans
repair shop)

I won't address most of your questions because
it is unreasonable to expect anything from a vehicle
manufacturer after the warrantee is up

The only thing you get, is when there is a Govt mandated
recall, then they have to do something.

Ford transmissions especially transaxles are only good for
70 to 100,000 miles
Your will go a long way if you change your fluid every
30,000 miles and add a bottle of red lubegard.
No one does that. It should be done on all vehicles
as well as power steering at the same 30,000 miles.

The most common problem is the solenoid pressure
pack. Most people can not detect a trans issue and continue
to drive it until internal issues develop. All makes and Models

You can not buy a new trans
They are only new on the assy line
You rebuild your and correct all the problems
your addressing or install a reman and hope they
were updated.

Don't expect ford to be on their game, the after
market will be though. Trans shops, parts venders, etc

I want to swap engine and trans. from wrecked 92 E150 van to 87 E

You can swap just the transmission unless the shifter is on the column, then you will need the column as well,You don't need the engine if your is still good.

98 chevy k1500 has a hard time changing gears. revs high before change. Speedo dont work and abs light on.

TRY CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND FLUID. THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY TAKING THE TRANS PAN OFF AND PULLING DOWN ON THE TRANS FILTER MAKING SURE THE RUBBER GROMMET ON THE OUTLET SIDE OF THE FILTER IS REPLACED AS WELL. THE KIT AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE SHOULD INCLUDE THE GROMMET, FILTER AND NEW GASKET FOR THE PAN. HOPE THIS HELPS. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANK YOU FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

Manual trans stuck in gear

I had the same problem. Started for me as not going into reverse. Here is what you do. Have someone work the shifter while you open the hood and look straight down into the engine bay. You will see a cable that attaches to the top of the transmission. Where it attaches to the transmission the cable is supposed to have a plastic grommet. In time this grommet cracks and falls apart. Therefore the cable no longer engages/disengages the gearbox. You must fashion a new grommet out of a piece of rubber or similar material, make a hole in the middle of it to fit over the shaft of the transmission lever, jam it into the opening at the end of the shifter cable, then use a small cotter key to secure the whole thing into place. Test the shifter, make sure the cotter key will hold, change the size if it will not stay on. Should work, I made this fix about 20,000 miles ago and its not come off since.
