Serpentine belt keeps shredding on the inside

The serpentine belt on my 2000 chevy silverado 1500 keeps shredding on the inside of the belt and then it eventually comes off. It has completely come off 2 times and has broke 1 time. checked all the pullys and they seem fine. what could be causing the belt to be doing this?

Sounds like one of the pulleys is not aligned with the rest. You can use a straight edge to check the alignment.
I would also want to make sure all of the pulleys are secure and not loose or bent.

Chevy silverado 2001 serpentine belt came off

with the engine off, grab each pulley that the belt rides on. You are looking for one that is loose. When you find the problem, replace it and install a new belt.

Having trouble putting serpentine a/c belt on 2000 chevy silverado with 4.8 I cannot get it around pulleys

if you are using the tool to release tension of the belt tensioner and you are putting the belt on the pulleys in the right sequence as shown on the under hood decal and you still can`t get the belt on then you have a belt that too short for the application either the wrong belt in the sleeve with the right part number or it`s just plane too short of a belt

Changing serpentine belt on 2000 chevy silverado 1500 4.8 v8

The belt has tension applied to it from an idler pulley arm. you need to release tension by using a socket and ratchet on the nut on the idler pulley. Release tesion and slide belt off . Make sure you have the diagram for serpentine belt. it is usualy under the hood. If not make a diagram yorself before removing belt.

Readjust the Serpentine belt as the solution for the chirping sound. The check engine light could be a lot of things. Take it to the local Auto parts store and ask them to read the fault code for you. It is most likely the O2 sensor needing replaced and is an easy fix.

Chevy silverado 2000 serpentine belt replacement?

Mike, the belt routing should be on a sticker under your hood, these use a spring belt tensioner and it is easiest to us a 3/8 or 1/2 breakover to pull the tensioner back then the belt is easily removed and replaced, please do not rate me at all if it is not a fixya, thats the only reason do this is for my score. Thanks, and merry Christmas.
