IF THE WATER PUMP IS LEAKING WILL STOP LEAK SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS A TEMP RESOLVE
SOURCE: oil leaks
First of all, which engine does your cavalier have? Some GM engines around that time had problems with the intake manifold gasket leaking oil where the manifold bolted to the top of the engine block, but if I remember correctly, it was in the 3.1 liter V-6 engines. If your car has a 4 cylinder engine, I am not aware of any inherent oil leak problems.
BTW, if your oil light has been on for 2 weeks, without your adding any oil, you probably have more serious problems than just an oil leak by now. Maybe not a solution, but it's a place to start.

replace the pump, it's a big job! watch out for plastic parts.
SOURCE: how to replace valve cover gasket 1998 chevy malibu
The first step is to remove all the parts that are in the way of you being able to remove the valve covers. (Ex.: air intake, loose wires etc.) Then you will need to remove your valve covers (using basic tools) and be very careful to not let anything get on your lifters, which your valve covers protect. Once you have the valve covers off compare the new gaskets to make sure they are the right size. Then remove the old gasket and replace with the new one using a high temp gasket sealant (available at any auto parts store) to attach the gasket to the valve covers. Then tighten down snug and check for leaks after replaced.

check your serpentine belt it sounds like it may have stretched or broken. Without the belt working properly your car will overheat due to the waterpump not activating and neither will the power steering or alternator
