It may be one tooth off. That all it takes. One tooth on the belt of the crank or cam. The computer gets it's spark pulse from a sensor on the crankshaft. If it gets the pulse a fraction of a second to late or too early it won't time correctly. Check it out one more time. Hope this helps. Good luck and thanks for using FIX-YA.

Remove the spark plugs and perform a compression test. The lowest cylinder should be not less than 75% of the highest.
Depending on the engine design, you may have a number of bent valves due to valve/piston interference. The compression test will tell. If valves are bent, you will need to remove the head and have the valves replaced.

I have a 1986 isuzu pickup it is a 2.3L 4cyl 5 speed 4x4, whenever it is given higher gas it tends to knock quite loudly, timing belt is fine and all fluids seem to be up where they should be.

the knock is most likely detonation or spontaneous combustion
it comes from incorrect air / fuel ratio, incorrect ignition timing,
incorrect rpm for the throttle setting
It is detrimental to the engine as the increased combustion temperatures will melt piston tops if allowed to persist unfixed
start by running the fault codes to find the problem area
( most likely a heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) in the exhaust manifold not reporting correctly to the ECM which controls the injector settings

How do I find tdc on #2 cylinder when timing belt breaks

Timng belt installation involves the #1 cylinder, not the #2 cylinder. Below is the picture of the timing marks for the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder:

Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.

Car turns over but will not run.

I had a simular problem.
I chekced the timing of the engine. The timng belt skipped time. The engine oil pump is not in time with the engine causing the spark plugs to foul out
