I need timing marks for a 2002 Axiom and is this a interference engine
I have found that one can mark (Paint pen) the gears and teeth (One tooth and one corresponding belt rib) on each gear prior to removing the belt. You can then overlay the old belt on a new belt and mark the same spots on the new belt and then install the belt so your marks on the gears and belt line up as they did before you removed the old belt. Given that your timing was right to start with....if done correctly, this will work.
I just did a timing belt on a 2002 axiom 3.5L today....without a manual. The timing marks on both cam gears point upward to a mark located on the center of each valve cover end. The crank sprocket that drives the belt has a mark that lines up with a mark located at 3 pm. You will need an extra hand to set the belt in place as the cams move a few degrees with the belt removed (on thier own). Get the timing tensioner compressed and insert a small steel pin to hold the tensioner retracted (There are holes in the tensioner to do this). Set the belt in place with the crank gear mark at 3pm...where it's corresponding mark is. Turn 1 cam (Passenger side) clockwise until it's marks are set. Have someone hold a screw driver inside this gear cavity...wedged against a bolt to hold this cam in position. YOU then line up the driver side cam and slip the belt on. Check all timing marks...if they are right, pull the pin from the tensioner and it will snap into position...placing tension on the belt. Thats it. Button it up.

ant, i bet its long long ago fixed or sold.
What if timing is off
2009 post. why ask here.?
are you attempting to piggyback and old post
say so,, as you are asking a question over someones very old question 2009.
be nice to say.....
2002 3.5L engines. the early 2002 is still an isuzu, not GM.
the 3.5L is not interference,(official)
but that means,(oddly) piston does not hit valves. it won't on a unmolested engine.
the correct question "can my engine be damaged with a slipped or snapped cam belt.
right? no.
use the correct word get good answers.
and oddly the twin cam version, can have the left cam valves smash in to right cam valves.
and that is what most normal savvy folks want to know,
but... if still stock from isuzu no.
there are 3x different 3.5L class engines.
3.2 sohc , 3.3 Dohc then below.
this engine is called the V class engines;
seen here, VEhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_V_en...
The 6VE1W 3.5L DOHC 24V V6 was introduced in 1998 '
as you can seen it has twin cams on both heads.
but the 2 cams are gear drive left and right.
this keeps them safe, unless the owner removes cam and cant follow simple FSM instructions.
here it is, see that red arrow.
but to be safe?
we treat all DOHC engines and interference
and never mess up, doing that.
we do cyl. leak down tests first. (by hand)
and watch cam action turning crank by hand first. to be sure, all is as we dreamed.
If the cam gears are happy , no smashing
in most cases, no bad happens if you keep the unknowing away from cams, (removed)
nice of Isuzu to have this gear setup, no?
so if belt snaps, no bent valves.
to those brave folks timing cams on engine blind, (no books) if you guess wrong
on most DOHC engines, it bends the valves.
there are expectations,
few, and this one may be free running
but learn that most DOHC are not.
the full manual is here.http://www.helminc.com/helm/result.asp?S...
the virtual FSM is at mitchell's
go to google and type
Mitchell's DIY.
its $15
no need to work blind, nor guess.
guessing usually fails, now or soon.
do it right. and win.
