Weird Sounds in the Exhaust

Hi guys,
When I start my car, there's a weird noise coming from the exhaust, then it disappears, but as soon as I switch on the A/C it comes back and it stays on as long as I'm driving, unless I speed or switch off the A/C.

What is causing this sound?
and is this a problem?
if yes, what should I do to fix it?

Thanks,
Aymen

The weird noise, is like a Buzzing sound of metal, that comes when I first start the car and then disappears, but always come when I start the A/C.

    Hope I clarified it enough!

    Thanks

Could be turbocharger or exhaust pipe clogged with ash from exhaust smoke. In any case, service is paramount.

SOURCE: I had my distributor replaced

sounds like your timimg is off either by a tooth or at least a few degrees, does it make a rattling sound when you come on to the fuel hard? Also check to see if your coolant level is going down if so you could have a bad head gasket.

SOURCE: 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500 LIFTER NOISE

Try a cup of tranny fluid, Dextron, or whatever, in the crankcase. Or there are lots of lifter products at your local part store. I would certainly try that first. I assume your oil has been changed recently, and the level is good. You don't have to pull the heads, but you do have to remove the intake, and valve covers.

SOURCE: My Denali is making a weird screeching/grinding

If it is screeching while driving and not when the brakes are applied it's the "sensor" that is designed to provide warning when the brake pads need to be changed.

'94 Gmc Sonoma 4.3L Starts loosing Power and making weird Rattle Noise when reaching operating temperature. Also water tank looks like there is a bit oil in it. Could it be the cylinder head gasket?

Oil in the coolant is usually an intake manifold gasket problem on these engines. If a head gasket failure the engine will normally overheat and give erratic temp guage readings. Make sure the oil level is full. Is the rattle noise coming from the engine? Some times the exhaust (converter) will fail and the catylist will seperate causing a rattle noise from the exhaust and plug it up giving a no power situation

Loud exhaust

Hi
Loud noise from Exhaust means your exhaust system is leaking.
this will make the performance poor on your vehicle.

Get that check and replaced.

The check engine light stays on after oil change. When you apply the brakes the steering wheel vibrates and there is a weird humming type noise coming from the rear while idling.

Hope the oil filter was changed and with the OE type and the correct oil grade.
If so the oil pressure switch can be clogged and so produce the check engine light.
When applying brakes the steering vibrates as it can be due to faulty linkages in steering column, problem in the hydralics pump or fault in the steering rod bearings.
finally the weird noise from rear can be from a faulty exhaust , leak or poor joint in the exhaust or vibration of the exhaust with loose mountings.

I was wondering what this plug on the motor that goes in to the exhaust does. It makes a weird noise when it is not not.

Should be the O2 sensor. Does it have wires coming off it? you're probably hearing the metal expand/contract. Or you have an exhaust leak there.

Weird Sound while in motion

Hi,

To my knowledge, the only possible source of any growl (noise) underneath the car towards the center or rear would be the exhaust pipe after the converter before the muffler. Often they use rubber dougnuts as hanger support. A loose or broken support would significantly misalign thie exhaust pipe enough to cause vibration or wind induced noise.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
