If the vehicle start shaking at a set speed range and disappears in all other ranges you got a tire balance problem.form 25 then 50 if there no shaking then you get to 60, You got a balance problem but still youll need to look at the wear of the tire make sure you feel it. Do you see or feel anything protruding out? If its yes you'll need to replace the tire. also check the tires do you see cracks especially near the rim. If you see crack that is called seperation and youll need to replace the tire. Now for the Brakes once the brakes get hard you have no power assist. 1999 Oldsmobile used what they called Bendix 9 or Bendix 10. This replaced the vacuum brake booster you can identify it . It will have a black ball that is filled with nitrogen after the 3 pedal stop it depletes and drains the power brake assist. And that is a issue of concern. Another reason for hard brake if called brake fade. The friction of the brake pedal gets hard you have no power assist. This you'll need to correct at a repair shop, why not ? There is an important person in there, and its you.
Your question is very valid. Why calipers so early? German calipers a reputable as high quality, my experience with several owned in the past backs this up. There may have been a modification or possible unforseen in your particular vehicle requiring an upgrade/ change but you should be disclosed this info by VW. Possibly the old dealer "maintainance thing" ( had a friend w/ BMW and they said he needed $1500 tire rotation/suspension balance- total BS). Basicly, if the piston(s) move freely, don't leak, and the sliding part of the assembly does not hang up, you should be OK. Please update me as I would like to know how you did, Thanx, MK
It sounds like you broke the wheel bearings loose - I would have a mechanic pull the tire and drum off. This isn't too expensive to fix - max about a couple hundred parts and labor ( if that) even if this has a rear axle.
Your best bet would be to have a mechanic look at it (Tire repair place or mechanic)
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
the struts in the front are broke this is what keeps your truck off the tire its sits inside the spring and if they break this will mess with the way it brakes and turns :) hope this helps
If you have disc brakes then all you need is a c-clamp to compress the brake caliper. If you have drum brakes then you really need to purchase a pair of brake pliers and pair of small vise grip pliers or tool to re-install your retainer springs. It isn't very expensive for either and not hard to change your own brakes. Just do one at a time and don't take everything off of both sides in case you have to look at the other side to see how things go back together. You will have to jack up one side at a time to take the tire off.
It's not a big deal unless that dash light really annoys you.. I've owned 4 Honda Accords ('83, 87, and two '89 models) and they've ALL done the same thing. I just learned to live with it, after all it doesn't mean you really have a brake light or tail light out at all, just a quirky thing about these cars, probably a sensor. And given that I've gotten over 300,000 miles out of EVERY oldr Accord I've owned, without major problems or huge repair bills, that little "idiot light" on the dash is just fine with me! One consistent problem I have had however is water leaking and collecting in the tail lights themselves (I use a small drill bit to drain water from the tail light without cracking it) and also water leaking into the spare tire compartment in the trunk (I drill a hole right thru the metal with large drill bit to drain this water and have no water buildup after that).. I've found that with just basic maintanence these vehicles last FOREVER so take care of it and it will take care of you, and don't sweat the small stuff as long as it gets u from A to B...
