Seems like theres a build up of carbon in the intake. you can try the pour in gas tank cleaners for fuel injection cars which you have and after 2 or 3 of those with 2 or 3 full tanks it will clean the injectors and the carbon out of the intake. And if you really want to get them cleaned up even better and stop all the rough idling, take the intake off yourself and clean all the black stuff off anywhere you see it. Thats the carbon build up. Especially on the butterfly valve area. It will not only run better for you but get better gas mileage as well.

SOURCE: Car hesitates/stalls when engine is warm and car starts to move.

Sounds like a bad motor mount, pop the hood and see if the motor shakes or moves rapidly when u put it in gear holding down the brake.

Your oil is a little low, and the timing may be off a bit but if it smooths out after warm it is probably ljust
low oil.

SOURCE: bmw e36 328i cuts out at idle, wont krank, runs rough at idle.

The battery could still be bad and if you don't have a totally good battery in the car it won't run right. Take to one of the parts stores and they can check it for you for free. Probably as simple as a battery.

Why is my1997 bmw Z3 1.9 start rough for 2min then is ok

The EGR valve opens when the engine is warming up, which allows exhaust to enter the intake manifold. This is essentially "extra air" coming into the engine. The engine has an "idle speed control" function, which is either a solenoid or small stepper motor connected to a valve that allows a controlled amount of air to "sneak" by the throttle plate in the throttle body. Fundamentally, it is the amount of air entering a fuel injected engine that controls engine RPM. A defective idle speed control ("ISC) motor or solenoid can cause the problem you stated. (I do not know which type is used in your BMW.) Often, a check engine light will illuminate of the engine computer cannot adequately regualte engine idle speed.

Want idle on cold mornings.

Thinking possibly the air temp. sensor (mounted in the
air cleaner housing) Really need to see scan data to tell for sure
but that costs a fortune at a dealership.air temp sensor is fairly
cheap.

COLD START ROUGH IDLE

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but may be the head gasket.

My car started with rough idle. Then very hard to start in cold weather. Next started overheating, but no output from heater. Trickling sound from behind dash board. Overflow bottle overflowing.......

I replaced the water pump, radiator cap, thermostat, coolant, fan belts, power flushed the system. Nothing worked. Some research gave me the answer.

The head gasket leak was allowing exhaust gases to enter the cooling system, displacing the coolant. After use, as engine cools, coolant is sucked back into the system and coolant seeps into the cylinder. This gets worse over time.

First thing you'll notice is the rough idle as the spark plug burns off the coolant in the cylinder. (This is especially true at low temperatures.) If it is the head gasket, the other symptoms will follow as time goes by.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, check and listen under the hood at each vacuum connection and hose.
