Brake pedal on my 1994 BMW 740i does not want to return all what way when the car is running. it appears that it seems to return when the car is not running. we have already changed out the brake booster and tested the sensors and even greased the pivoting arm. at a stand still now. basically i was driving and the car stopped me(brakes seem to lock up and started stinking and smoking) on the freeway and would not let me go/pushing the gas pedal so i had to wait and finally it seemed to let up but did not let up all the way. you have to actually pull the brake pedal back up with your hand or foot and until you do this the brake light stays on. the abs light was solid but now it is blinking. we have even adjusted the tension rod. has anyone had a similar problem and have a possible place to start looking into next. any and all ideas would be helpful and appreciated

Brakes locking on is an indication of a failing master cylinder and not allowing the brake fluid back to the reservoir
At this point I would suggest a visit to an accredited professional brake shop for a proper diagnosis and an explanation of what would cause the fault
I am thinking that the rubbers in the master are enlarged and are jamming the return of the pistons in the cylinder

the way to reset the brake light is to turn the key to "on" without turning the car on. Let it sit there for 15-30 seconds and the light should go off by itself. If not, double check how you have the sensors hooked up.

SOURCE: 1998 BMW 740i - I had a brake light out, replaced it, it won't

check where the wires go from the inside of the body to the out around the gromet. I did run into one that the wires rubbed. Also if the light are on the trunk lid check where they go through the trunk latch.

are the dash lights still working,if so,first check the bulbs, you can get a test light at autozone for a couple bucks, with the bulb out, test light grounded, have someone step on the brake pedal, touch the test lite probe to one of the contacts inside bulb socket,if it dont work your brake lite switch is out,its located under the dash, maybe on brake pedal lever

My 1994 BMW 740i only cranks and never runs.

Have you run the fault codes first as it may not be the fuel pump. Find out what is faulty before you spend good money on what is not faulty.

I have a 1994 BMW 740i. My car only cranks and turns over but will not start up and run

I believe you will have an issue with your injectors. Check your mileage with the manufacturers recommendation on replacement.
Before you do anything, just put into your fuel tank a SLICK 50 Fuel Treatment Additive - half tank of petrol - and take it for a good drive. Read the directions on the box. Probably solve the problem for the time.

My 1994 BMW 740i will not run but motor is cranking turning over and trying to start to run like lack of fule.

Try spraying carb. cleaner in throttle body while turning the key. If this works, most likely have a bad fuel pump. Good Luck
