YES, THE RADIO ANTENNA IS PART OF THE DEFROST HEATER GRID.

I have static in the radio when I turn on the rear defroster.

The rear screen heater is a pure resistance being fed with direct current and normally will cause no radio interference as it does not vibrate or oscillate, though a loose or dirty connection or dirty switch could produce interference.

Some cars use the rear screen as a radio aerial and these are prone to producing radio interference, especially when trying to receive vertically polarised signals.
I tried this myself using a bi-fi rear screen aerial adaptor and was very disappointed with the results, the signal-to-noise ratio was appalling.

If your car uses the rear screen as an aerial there is likely to be a box of electrickery physically somewhere near the rear screen where the aerial cable originates. This box contains stuff to decouple the radio signals from the HRW circuit and will probably contain a signal amplifier.

The static you hear might just be a drastic reduction in signal strength rather than actual generated interference. You can do little else but to check the connections to and from the unit particularly the ground connections and check the voltages present on the related wiring. If no external faults are found it is likely the box of electrickery has failed.

Spending a while looking at dedicated forums might help further.

Weird siren type sounds on the my 2006 Honda accord factory radio

Evil works in deceptive ways............. Just kidding, dude. I honestly have never heard of anything like this. Almost gotta be a wiring harness issue. If it were fuse-related, the radio would either work or not. I'm totally puzzled. Let me know when/if you figure it out. Best wishes.....

My 2003 honda accord radio/stereo audio goes dead abruptly, all I hear is occasional static. Sometimes, if I turn it on/off the sound may come back for a little while then goes to static/quiet again....

It sounds like something in the output circuit since it is both radio and CD.Obviously it hasn't been doing it from day 1 of getting the car or you wouldn't be just asking now right? The connector is not likely just because it doesn't get touched or anything. It needs repair or you may want to try a salvage yard for a used one or maybe even a whole new aftermarket one (Sony,Panasonic, etc.)For repair you are looking at removal, shipping, repair probably around $40-$60/hour.Parts have at least a 20% markup by repair centers. It may be a $2 part bad too.I would call a Honda dealer or an electronics repair center and they should be able to tell you maybe a little but you can't get an accurate cost unless you send it in.They normally will not charge you to ship it back if you send it and decide not to repair.Good luck! I have a 2005 Honda Accord, sometimes the radio will stop working (the radio is still on but I can't hear anything) then abruptly start playing again. When I open the passenger side door when the car is...

Probably not a speaker issue. Most likely it is in the radio itself. I have found several helpful hints on-line so try to google this before going and paying anyone to do it for you.

When i turn on the rear defrost i get static on the radio

Sounds like a bad connection to the defroster. Make sure that the power connections are a tight fit to the spade terminals

TURN ON THE REAR DEFROST AND THE RADIO GOES TO STATIC. 2006 HONDA ACCORD EX-L

The radio antenna is shared by the rear defroster, there is a part called the "Antenna Amplifier-Rear Window Defogger Coil", it is behind the left side rear pillar trim. It prevents the static from happening.

Radio

If the radio is aftermarket, they cross the circuitry of the antenna near the defroster, causing static in the antenna everytime you turn it on. Disassemble the radio and check for the wiring. Worst case scenario: they used the Positive wiring for the defogger switch and connected a wire to the radio's ACC cable.
