The speedometer on my E240 2003 is not working.

There is no odometer fuse . Does the speedometer work ?

If speedometer works , you need a new instrument cluster . Pinpoint Test E: The Speedometer/Odometer Is Inoperative Normal Operation Vehicle speed information is sent to the instrument cluster from the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module over the communication network.

Possible Causes
• ABS module
• Instrument cluster

scan the PCM OBD2 jack for VSS sensor errors or others.
Veh, speed, sensors.
is this automatic or stick shifted
no engine told.
is it 4wd or 2wd
VSS is in different places 2wd/4wd
VSS on some cars now is ABS sensors.
so do you see ABS errors/

have you had some one check the bulbs for the speedometer

If everything else works ok, the vehicle drives normally, and all the other gauges are working then you may have a bad speedometer servo motor. This servo is what actually moves the speedometer needle to match the speed you are driving at. The cluster would need to come out and be repaired to fix this problem if this is the case.

this vehicle has an electronic speed sensor located on the trans i do believe but im pretty sure this is your problem change it and your cured

insturment cluster is bad, have it repaired or buy a used one. they are known for going bad in these cars.

Could be lose connection on the back of the instrument cluster ,which means you would need to pull it out of the vehicle . Check pin fit to instrument cluster . for the B+ voltage suppy an ground connection's .
You said autozone - Tried to have auto zone diagnose from inside the car, came up with no codes. That's in the PCM - engine computer . There scan tool will not communicate with the instrument cluster ,which is also a computer in it's self. Need a factory scan tool to check instrument cluster.

With a scan tool select the instrument panel cluster, data display, gear status.
Monitor the gear range status.
Move the gear lever through each gear.
Does the scan tool display the correct gear selected?
Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .
