From cold start, it starts straight away but will die after a while or will die straight away if I try to rev it. When you try to restart it sounds like there is no compression and it takes ages to start. There are no fault codes recorded, I have fitted new airflow meter, eccentric shaft sensor, cam sensors, crank sensor, timing chain tensioner, fuel filter and coolant temp sensor. I have tried it with the eccentric shaft sensor disconnected and it's still the same. Engine has had an oil flush, new filter and Mobil 1 0w40 oil. When warmed up the car runs ok, it only has this problem if left all day or overnight.
While you car have only one problem & its Head valves just set valve tappets & you car goes well ..... either its get jam or to lose your car compresser is losing or it might be leak ....some thing wrong with engine head valves ,so check it & fix it ,or if you can then do it other wise go to mechanic he ll fix for u ...best of luck

i would try getting the ecu checked over and check the dizzy cap for cracks.
SOURCE: with my bmw318i 1997.i have difficulty starting
look for bad grounds in the ignition circuit.the corrosion is creating a voltage drop, but time and heat decrease the resistance..

Hi I'm litoshop that sounds like the fuel pump by removing the back seat and the insulation on the floor you'll see a cover remove the cover and your going to see fuel tank and fuel pump cover before removing turn car on and listen if you hear the pump working if you hear it and the engine shuts off and you still hear the pump then check the fuel pressure regular first before replacing the pump good luck
