You have to replace bearing and hub as a unit.you have to remove remove brakes and caliper rotor set them aside dont disconnect brake line. get a piece of clothes rack wire to hold brake caliper .do not let it hang by brake hose. you got to remove hub nut. best way to do that is loosen it a litttle while tire still on weight of car keep wheel from turning .

I've been trying to fix a roar and a severe vibration coming from the front/right side of my wife's 2004 Honda Pilot. ball joints are good, struts are fine, and brakes are solid. Thanks for any help

Roar can often be associated with failing wheel bearings, but they usually don't cause severe vibration, maybe a little bit when turning. Vibration in the drive train is most often associated with struts and/or CV shafts/joints going bad. If you are sure the struts and strut mounts are good, then I'd have the CV joints looked at.

Mazda 6 grinding noise when turning

Grinding noise upon turning is normally one of two issues. First, and most often, it is caused by a worn out outer CV joint. If your vehicle has more than 50000 miles on it and the axle shafts have never been replaced, this is what I would suspect first. In addition, CV noise will be louder when turning under power (gas pedal pressed) than when coasting into a turn. The other possibility is a front wheel bearing assembly. These are not as common, but do wear out as well. The wheel bearings will usually make no noise when going straight, but will make noise upon even the slightest side to side turn. CVs on the other hand, usually grind only when going into corners or making left or right turns. If you suspect a CV joint, but don't have high mileage, you could have a torn CV boot that resulted in the grease that lubricates the joint being depleted and causing the noise. You can inspect the out boots visually for tears....grease leaking out usually leaves telltale spatters in the wheel wells also. Replacement of the CV joint can be done, but it is usually cheaper to replace the entire axle shaft as they are serviced as a unit.

Ive replaced the cv shaft but the noise is still their...any ideas?

Have you checked the front wheel bearings? I've seen similar problems on several front wheel drive cars. On my first experience, we also started by changing the CV joints only to find it did not solve the problem. We then though it was a transmission problem.... wrong again. Finally checked the front wheel bearings (Both sides) and found the passenger side was making the noise. Bearing replaced (not cheap by the way) but solved the problem.

Would a low-speed clicking / popping noise be a CV joint problem? It occurs in straight line, low speed driving, forward and reverse. It is a 4x4, could my front differential be at fault?

CV joints tend to be much noisier on tight turns. Wheel bearing on the other hand, tend to be noisiest when straight.
But yes, it could be a pinion bearing instead.

If you have locking front hubs, then unlock them.
It is still happens, it is not the front differential.

Wheel bearings will have play you can feel through the brakes being spongy, vibrate, and through play if you jack it up.

CV joints can be taken off, apart, cleaned, inspected for spauling and pits, and regreased. You are supposed to do that anyway. So there is no reason to just replace them unless you actually see the metal flakes and grinding.

Differential is the hardest to see and most expensive, so save for last. Drain the oil into a clean pan, to see what comes out.

Growling noise from front of my taurus while driving, it also makes a whining noise when i steer hard left. i had the right front wheel bearing changed but the noise's are still there. also the inner cv...

It sounds like the CV joint, no they are not supposed to be loose, free to move but not loose like you describe, sort the CV then look at the wheel bearing as I imagine all the noises will disguise others

Grinding noise changes with speed stops when turned right. replaced left front wheel bearing. noise is still there. whats wrong ?

Does sound stop when you turn LEFT?

Turning RIGHT puts the heavy load on the LEFT front wheel.
That initially STOPPED the noise, correct? So why did you change L?

Turning LEFT puts the load on the RIGHT. Did you change the RIGHT?

Let's say this:
If turning RIGHT stops the noise, it's the RIGHT one that's likely bad.
If turning LEFT stops the noise, it's the LEFT one that's more likely bad.

Make sense? Turning RIGHT loads the LEFT wheel; and vice-versa as the WEIGHT SHIFTS AWAY FROM THE TURN.

More than likely it is what some folks call a CV joint problem, not wheel bearings. Try backing up and then going forward to see if "clunking sound" or a sharp "bang" is heard. Wheel bearings and CV joints only work if smooth. Sometimes a BEARING RACE is bad. Also, a bad spindle / part of the CV joint / transaxle assembly worn or badly machined. If in a WET ENVIRONMENT especially, u may want to try marine grade grease or teflon-added grease.

The car makes a squeaking noise when driving

Beyond the issues of dry wheel bearings and CV joints, various points in the suspension (front and rear) have rubber pivot points that get squeaky when moved. Try pushing down on each corner of the car to try to locate the area of the noise. Is it worse on rough roads or smooth? Make sure that all of the lug nuts on the wheels are tight. Lastly, doors, hood, and trunk lid can squeak if they move while driving. Silicon spray lubricant works on all rubber surfaces. Wheel bearing grease works on wheel bearings and CV joints--look for wear and replace any damaged part.

I dont know what it is called but the front right side wheel is making noise and i think it is the cv joint but not sure

Try checking the hub's and bearing's, when bearing's go bad they tend to make a squealing nois.
