1990 Lexus LS400 car wont start in cold weather. it used to start and shut right back off unless i gave it a little bit of gas. i had the battery, alternator & starter checked and everything is okay. now the car wont start at all. i had this problem the other day i took it into a shop he took out my spark plugs and they were flooded from me trying to start it before i had it towed. he said he torched the sparkplugs and it cranked right up. he then started it the next morning it started right up on the third day he started it right up and it started so he called me to pick it up. i picked it up yesterday drove it for a little bit and parked it turned it off. turned it back on it shut off. i turned it on again gave it a little bit of gas it stayed on. this morning i went to start it and it would not start. its cranking at full power but just wont start. what could cause this?

Older VW's and Audi's are notarious for this type of behavior. You actaully need a Vag or good diagnostic tester to tell you which plugs are mis-firing. You will need to replace a coil-pac or two. VW's issued a recall notice about 3 months ago about this issue and intends to re-imburse owners on certain models and years for coil-pac repalcement. After market coil-pacs should cost less than $50.00 each. Hope this helps.

Check air intake tempture sensor and engine control tempture sensor both will cause this problem don't rule out MAF but before u do any thing check for codes most lexuse will give u a code which is very helpful

check the fuel pump relay! It sounds like it is one of your relays. If it was an electrical or sensor problem, the check engine light would be on.

okay I was able to narrow down the problem. My father and I, tested one of the distributor caps, to figured out that SOMETIMES there is no spark to it coming from the ignition coil. And then when we test it again after giving it sometime, then we get a spark and the car will turn on. (keep in mind the car just turned on with 4 outta 8 spark plugs.) we then, turn off the car. Then plugged the wire coming from the ignition coil, back into the Distributor cap, the car starts right back up. My Question now is What could cause this to happen?

Okay my Father and I further tested the car. We came to find out that the Distributor caps Sometimes get a spark from the ignition coils. What we did was take the wire out of the distributor cap and test for spark NO SPARK. After giving the car some time we test for Spark Again and not only do we get a spark but the car fires right up. (keep in mind the car just started on 4 outta the 8 spark plugs). We turn the car off and plug the wire back into the Distributor cap and the car starts right up again. So my NEW question would be, What would cause BOTH Ignition Coils to go out at the same time and not give spark to either one of the Distributor caps. (there is 2 distributor caps and 2 ignition coils on the car)
