It could be a fuel leakage or lingering smell from the mechanic getting inside the car. gas is very powerful smell so clean the car out and have air fresheners. if the smell persist even after then have the car taken back to check for any fuel leakage.

SOURCE: New battery in 03 VW Passat, engine turns but will not start.

Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.

1994 ford ranger xlt 4.0,why fuel pump keep priming when switch on?

If its Petrol engine, the fuel pump should prime for few seconds and cut out. then it should run continuously once the engine starts turning. Please check if your exhaust has heavy black sooth deposits. maybe the cause for your high fuel consumption may be something else.

I have a 2003 freelander that smells of petrol whilst driving ive heard of this problem before but nwhat is the cause

Hi Paul:
The smell of petrol means that there is unburned fuel somewhere.
That is not good, and could be very bad, especially if it ignited.

I sincerely hope that you are not smelling this inside the vehicle while you are driving it.

Without running through a list of every possibility that I can think of, I'll make some suggestions.
1) When you smell the petrol, immediately pull over and shut the engine off. Lift the hood to access the engine and try to find the leak. Look at hoses, connections, fuel delivery components, gaskets. Look for wet spots, stains, wash marks where petrol may have moved dust and then evaporated.

Patience and a bit of time, and you should find it.

I'm also guessing that this is an external leak since you did not mention lack of power or backfiring.

Another possible is a failed hose connected to the fuel tank, or a faulty tank vent.

It's up to you. You're now detective Sherlock of the Petrol patrol.

SMELL OF PETROL

I would suggest bringing your car to the local Ford dealer and have them repair whatever is necessary to make your car safe. The better thing to have done, and. Out likely cheaper in the long run, is to repair the fuel pump properly the first time instead of creating a band aide repair.

Put a new in tank fuel pump in 3 days ago in my hyundai accent, but can smell petrol inside the car.

I would double check that your fuel tank is sealed. Fuel fumes can be very bad for your health and can be very dangerous. Sounds as though the gas line may be leaking, or the fuel pump seal is leaking.

Petrol smell in side the car

Possible there is leak or a joint fault in the fill cap, the fuel tank filling hose clamp , the fuel line to the fuel pump , fuel filter.
Now since petrol is highly volatile a small gap can make the gas smell into the cabin. Please start your check from the tank to the pump and the return fuel pipe, checking for leaks which can be easily tightened or a faulty fuel line changed.

I need to need to change the petrol pump on my

Drop the tank. While you have the tank off and the pump out inspect the inside of the tank for contaminants like dirt, varnish, and even water. A clean tank means a happy pump. It's always a good idea to replace the fuel filter when you replace the fuel pump.

I have a bmw 316i i have 30 to 40 miles worth of petrol inside the petrol tank and the car rev metre goes up and down and cars engine shuts down completely and it wont start untill it has quarter of a tank...

That sounds like the petrol pickup pipe in the tank has an air leak and when the fuel is dropping down below the leak it is sucking in more air than petrol.
The most likely cause of that is either the gauge sender untit or the fuel pump itself leaking (if the fuel pump on that car is inside the tank).

How do you remove a petrol pump from an audi coupe

It is mounted on the inside top of the fuel tank. If there is no access panel above the fuel pump inside the car, then you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to get to the pump for replacement. Pump as much fuel out of the fuel tank as possible before removing the tank.
